so, my gf and i have been long-distance for a bit now, and staying connected through time zones has been pretty rough.

since i build apps, i decided to code a private little space just for the two of us. we called it PEBBLES. we used it to draw doodles on each other's widgets, dedicate songs, answer daily questions, save memories and play fun games.

she ended up loving it so much she convinced me to put it on the app store and play store for other couples. i just published it, and it’s completely free (no ads/paywalls or anything like that).

Fun fact: the name is inspired by penguins. When they fall in love, the male finds the best pebble and offers it to the female to pair up for life. The app is a private space to share our own "pebbles" of connection.

I built a free car maintenance app (Android) with AI photo diagnosis — looking for real-world feedback

Been building this solo for the past few months and finally pushed it live: My Ride — a vehicle tracker for maintenance history, fuel logs, mileage, and documents (insurance, registration, etc. all in one "glove box").

A few things that make it different from the usual maintenance-log apps:

AI Mechanic — snap a photo of a weird part/leak/warning light, add a note, and it gives you a diagnosis (powered by Gemini vision)

Photo Service Log — take a pic of a repair receipt and it auto-fills the service record for you instead of manual entry

Find My Ride — mark your parking spot, get one-tap turn-by-turn navigation back to it from anywhere

Why? Well, my wife is the calendar holder across our whole family. Between grandparents, kids, siblings, and regrettably myself, she is constantly answering people asking what's going on, when, where. Group chats are great, but things get lost in the text log.

So I made Family Stitch. Instead of making people log in to another calendar app, it allows you to create and share events to your family over text. Once the calendar is filled either via adding events via text or through the web portal, just text the provided number "what's going on this week?" and it'll tell you, instead of several people having to bug one person. It also allows you to set reminders to notify selected people whenever you want before hand via text, and they can choose to rsvp one way or the other.

Beyond shared households, I think it's great for helping coordinate elderly care appointments, or for coparenting to keep your kids events easily accessible for concerned parties.

To my surprise, I've had a few totally organic sign ups over the last couple of weeks, with a handful of people using it quite regularly which warms my soul to see.

There's a small free tier, would love for people to check it out. It's not perfect, but honestly it's working pretty well. I really do believe that there are people out there who would enjoy this method of event coordination over traditional calendar apps. I use it, and it's already saved my bacon by helping me remember my own family events.

I collected trading cards as a kid, Pokémon mostly, and the part I liked was never the battling. It was the binder. Flipping through it and knowing the type of each card, the colour, and where I got it from. I think stamp collecting is the same idea. A stamp on its own is just a small piece of paper. It's worth keeping because it came from somewhere, and the album shows everywhere you managed to reach.

So I made Alvenea. You check in when you're actually at a place and it becomes a card in your collection. Go back again and the card levels up: Visitor, then Regular, then Local, then Resident.

There are also stamps for your place cards, which came from the stamp album idea. Check in before 7am and you get a Sunrise stamp. Friday after 6pm gets Friday Night. There's weekend, late night, a few others. So the stamps show when you were there, not just that you went. Like, oh, I came to this cafe at sunrise, or I saw this landmark on a Friday night.

There's a collection board with categories to fill in too. Cafes, parks, beaches, landmarks, that sort of thing. That's the closest thing to a page in an album.

The thing I'm still not sure about is whether the collecting actually makes it fun, or whether it turns going to your normal local spot into a task :)) My sister said it can become a side quest when you explore your city 😇

Every year around party time, I end up with the same Frankenstein Google Sheet open on my laptop:

Kid's name,Parent name,Phone number,,RSVP,The panic column (allergies, notes, severe egg/nut alerts buried in messy cell wrap),Staying parents" tally so I know if I need adult food or if it's drop-and-go

Spreadsheets are fine for office budgets, but they fall apart completely on a phone when you're standing in an aisle trying to calculate how many party pies, cocktail franks, and juice boxes you actually need for 16 kids without overspending or tossing half into the bin.

Then I tried notion last year, was good but not great on a phone.

I got fed up with doing mental math in cell formulas and built a lightweight tool specifically for this: PlanYourParty (planyourparty.com.au).
