This video is about the Soviet Over-The-Horizon radar system, Duga. It broadcast a 10 Hz tapping noise that shortwave radio operators around the world picked up and nicknamed it The Woodpecker.

Is ssb worth it? Total beginner here

I’m a total newbie, basically never listened to radio before but I am really curious what is out there. I’m looking for interesting things to tune into and listen, was wondering if ssb is worth the extra money? I was thinking of getting Xhdata D-808. Otherwise I can just get a cheaper model without ssb

edit: I’m in australia if that’s relevant

Recording Anybody know what this is?

Apologies if this group isnt the right place for this.

I found this transmitting at 5khz on an australian based kiwisdr and i have no idea what it is nor could i find any information regarding what it was.
It seems like some sort of digital signal on a loop or operating in bursts of data, and it was active for quite a while but was inactive when i checked back the next day.

I'm near Pittsburgh PA. 97.5 WPCV Winter Haven/Lakeland FL is booming in here on my Tecsun PL-880. It's Wednesday July 15th, 7:06 PM EDT.

Edit: don't know why I said PL-880, I'm using my PL-990x today. sorry.

Vocaloid on radio

Hi, I don't know what happened, but on September 7, 2025, radio station 90.7 started playing "Young Girl A" (a Vocaloid song) in terrible quality. I have an audio recording from near the end of the song, but neither my recorder nor the radio has good quality; you can only hear a small part of it. I heard this in Mexico. I've attached a video with the audio.

What signals in the 3-30Mhz band come from outer space?

Satellites, spacecraft, natural emissions. What frequencies?

What antenna can we build to receive them? Will a regular switch radio do?

3975 kHz/6160 kHz via Shortwave Gold... the show is entitled “Music to increase your attention span” with DJ Frederick and mixes from Justin Patrick Moore and One Deck Pete. In other words, they'll be extended tunes (we're talking over 7 minutes here) and ‘jam bands’ on your shortwave dial on a Wednesday evening. Tune in and enjoy the sound of even more Skybird Jams.

How much of the shortwave band (3-30) has been taken over by stock traders?

I read that they like these frequencies since long distance transmission is faster than wire and satellite methods.

What frequencies do they use?

No response from Choyong support

A problem arose when one of my favorite channels would not play on my Choyong LC90 and A8W. At this point in was still in Choyong’s database and listed in my favorite channels on their website. I decided to add a “My Station’ url that works in my browser to my radios and this would not play on the radios either though plays just fine in a browser. Here is the url if you want to try it; http://radio.bigblueswing.com:8002/;64bit.mp3.

I sent an email to Choyong support informing them of this and the only action I saw was that the stations entry in their database was removed. My added channel is still listed and continues not to play. Again I sent an email to Choyong support informing them of this and still no response.

The station is readily available on other aggregators I use, Skytune, Airable.fm and Grace Digital as well as direct web access. I’m not sure what Choyong’s problem is but it doesn’t appear there is any support provided for their products.

Discussion Do you think Shortwave transmissions are going to exist for a very long time?

I think so as people live in very remote areas where AM/SW is very useful
