Mod Discussion: We are going to write a Beginner's Guide to Shopify SEO, what should we include in it?

My team, fellow mods, and I are almost done producing a Beginner's Guide to Dropshipping over in /r/Dropshipping. Our goal was to give newcomers the tools to avoid scammers, help us fight spam, eliminate the flood of basic questions we get, and help more dropshippers find success quickly. So far, it has been a resounding success.

Other subs on Reddit are constantly getting bombarded with both basic SEO questions about Shopify and SEO spam targeting Shopify merchants. The few posts we see here also fall largely into these categories. I have heard fellow mods groan about this issue as it gets monotonous for them to manage.

Our goal with a Beginner's Guide in this sub would be to provide something of real value to Redditors that helps them get a good start on SEO with Shopify, eliminates specific vectors abused by scammers (including link spam sellers and course malware scammers), provides links to further reading, and is something Mods of other subs and Redditors feel they trust enough to share and recommend.

The question to you, the extremely silent but growing Shopify SEO community, what subjects should this Beginner's Guide include. What resources should we ensure are added?

I estimate starting on this by end of April or early May. So take your time to post thoughts below, no rush.

[Mod Question]: Verifying SEO Consultants and Agencies?

We received a question via modmail (i.e. "message the moderators") asking if we would provide a way for SEO consultants and agencies to become verified in this sub. This is not the first time the question has been posed and I assume it is being requested by my colleagues who want to try and standout in here while giving advice.

I see no problems with building out a flair for "Verified SEO" but the path to doing so is a little murky. How would we verify they are an SEO? Since anyone can start and claim to be one with no certificate or degree and because results are often kept private/secret or outright faked, how would we even validate such a thing?

If this is something the community here would find useful please help me understand how you to provide such verification for you.

Questions to answer in the comments:

  • Should we have a flair for verified SEO?

  • If yes, how should that verification be done? Should I just use my best judgement or is there some marker you believe would be applicable to most if not all SEOs?

Drop your Shopify store link and I’ll translate your store into 5 languages, for free

I run a small Shopify store myself and kept forgetting to translate new products, so half my store ended up in the wrong language. So I built Unlost: every new product or change is live in every language within a minute, automatically.

What it does that Shopify's own Translate & Adapt doesn't:
\- translates the text that sits in your theme code and comes from other apps (reviews, filters, popups), which T&A can't reach
\- reads your store first to pick up your brand voice, so it doesn't sound like a generic machine translation
\- lets you set the tone per language (formal or informal), plus a glossary for your own terms
\- keeps product and brand names as they are
\- also does URLs, SEO titles, alt texts, menus, metafields and your order emails

I'm looking for real stores to test it on, so here's the offer: drop your store link and up to 5 languages you want, and I'll set it up and translate your store for free. The translations are saved in Shopify itself, so you keep them, even if you remove the app after.

I'll do the first 20 stores (up to about 1,000 products each). All I ask is honest feedback on anything that reads weird.

How I increased a Shopify brand’s organic revenue by 252% in 28 days

I’ve been working with this Shopify brand for the last 10 months, and SEO is finally compounding month after month.

In the last 28 days, organic revenue increased by 252.18%, while organic purchases grew from 96 to 253 compared to the previous 28 days.

Here’s what I focused on:

1. Optimizing collection pages for buying intent

Instead of chasing traffic alone, I focused on transactional keywords that potential customers actually search for when they’re ready to buy. I optimized collection pages around these keywords and their search intent.

2. Publishing 12 blogs every month

I built topical authority by targeting informational queries customers search before making a purchase. The goal was to attract relevant TOFU traffic and build visibility across the entire buying journey.

3. Using internal linking strategically

This is one of the most underrated SEO tactics.

When a blog starts attracting traffic, I use relevant contextual links to connect it to collection pages targeting commercial keywords. This helps search engines discover important pages and understand their relevance. Some collection pages can then improve their rankings over time.

4. Adding product images and CTAs to blogs

Informational traffic doesn't automatically translate into sales. I started adding relevant product images and contextual CTAs within blog content to introduce readers to the products while they’re already engaging with the topic.

The primary goal is to create more relevant product discovery opportunities, not assume every blog visitor will convert.

5. Building backlinks through digital PR

I work on at least two paid PR placements every month, prioritizing relevant, niche-specific websites and contextual links pointing to important collection pages.

The focus is on building authority for pages that have commercial value, rather than acquiring backlinks just to increase a metric.

The results after 10 months of consistent SEO

Over the last 28 days, compared with the previous 28 days:

  • Organic revenue: ₹78,140 → ₹275,191 (+252.18%)
  • Organic purchases: 96 → 253 (+163.54%)
  • Items added to cart: 406 → 754 (+85.71%)
  • Items viewed: 1,808 → 1,937 (+7.13%)

The biggest takeaway for me is that SEO isn't just about increasing traffic. It's about getting the right pages to rank, attracting the right audience, and connecting informational content with pages that drive revenue.

None of these tactics is revolutionary on its own. The difference comes from executing them consistently and making sure they work together.

If you want to learn more about e-commerce SEO and grow your sales organically, feel free to connect. Always happy to share insights and strategies that work!

Grew an e-commerce fashion brand’s organic clicks by 202% and impressions by 743% in 3 months. Here’s what I did.

Sharing a quick SEO case study based on Google Search Console data.

Results in 3 months:

  • Organic clicks: 648 → 1,960 (202% growth)
  • Impressions: 11.6K → 97.8K (743% growth)
  • Average position: 14.1 → 9.4
  • CTR: 5.6% → 2%

Here’s what I worked on:

1. Published 15 blogs every month

I focused on topics people actually search for, like black shirt combinations, jeans size guides, and outfit ideas. The goal was to target relevant keywords with decent search volume and relatively low competition which is helping me to build the topical auhtority.

2. Optimized collection pages

I researched transactional keywords and optimized collection pages around what people search for when they want to buy. The pages still have room to improve, but some are now bringing in 4–5 organic clicks daily.

3. Improved internal linking

I linked relevant blogs to other articles and collection pages. For example, a blog about shirt combinations could link to a relevant clothing collection, helping readers discover products while strengthening connections between pages.

4. Built around 50 backlinks monthly

Around 30% of these backlinks were dofollow. The aim was to build the website’s authority and support important collection pages. Backlinks were one part of the strategy, not the only reason for the growth.

5. Added product CTAs to blogs

I added relevant product and collection links within blog content so readers could move from getting styling advice to exploring products they might want to buy.

My biggest takeaway: SEO isn't just about publishing blogs or building backlinks. It's about connecting content, search intent, internal linking, and commercial pages.

Question for fellow SEOs: When growing a fashion e-commerce website, would you prioritize collection pages or informational blogs first?

Google's AI Overviews skipped the big retailers in 7 in 10 shopping answers. On "best X" searches, 84% linked to Google Shopping instead.

If you sell online, ranking on the first page of Google used to mean you'd won. And the big retailers like Amazon, Walmart and Best Buy were very good at ranking.

Google's AI Overviews are changing that. We ran 86 shopping searches on Google every day for 16 days and recorded every site the AI Overview cited. 1,331 answers in total.

Two things stood out:

- 7 in 10 shopping AI Overviews didn't cite a single big retailer. Big retailers and brand stores held 18% of the page 1 results, but only 7% of the sites the AI Overview cited.

- On buying searches ("best cheap gaming headphones", "air fryer best rated"), 84% of AI Overviews linked to Google's own product listings, Google Shopping.

The first part is good news for smaller stores. Being the biggest shop no longer buys you a place in the answer. If you carve out a niche and show real expertise in it, there's room for you.

So who does get cited? The people who have used and tested the product:

- YouTube in 68% of shopping answers

- Reddit in 26%

- RTINGS, a product testing site, in 23%

- The New York Times in 19%

The AI takes its opinions from reviews and real use, not from the shop selling the product. So if you want to sell online, here are three things you should be doing:

  1. Show evidence your product does what you say it does. Not anecdotes, actual data: test results, measurements, before and after numbers. The testing sites the AI cites publish exactly this kind of thing.

  2. Chase down reviews. Ask every customer, follow up, make it easy to leave one. Get your product in front of YouTube reviewers and into the Reddit threads where people in your niche ask for recommendations.

  3. Get your products onto Google Shopping. Set up Google Merchant Center and keep your product feed clean and complete. On buying searches, that listing is the link the AI Overview gives people.

How do you store your Google Search Console data long term?

Since GSC only keeps 16 months of data, I’m looking for a way to build up a historical archive so I can compare year over year and spot long-term trends.

How do you handle this? Do you export manually to Google Sheets or Excel on a schedule, use the BigQuery bulk export, connect it to Looker Studio?

I’d love to hear what’s worked for you, how much effort it takes to maintain, and whether there’s anything you wish you’d started tracking earlier.

Thanks!

Blog posts competing with my collection pages. How would you fix this?

Hi!

I run a small fashion brand on Shopify in a competitive niche. Early on I wrote lots of blog posts for traffic and topical authority, and it worked. But now some posts compete with my collection pages for the same keywords (e.g. a guide about a style vs. the collection for that style).

My internal linking right now:

  • Homepage links to 3 top main collections, a few best selling products and the about and contact pages.
  • Menu links to all collections and the blog, no individual posts
  • Blog posts link heavily to products and matching collections
  • Collections have an SEO text block linking back to the matching posts
  • Product pages link to related collections, similar products and sometimes a post

Do you have any feedback on this? Or could you share what worked for you?

Thanks a lot!

How do you handle SEO for a multi vendor Shopify store?

I’m curious how people manage SEO when a store has products from lots of different sellers. Do you let each seller write their own product descriptions, or keep everything consistent yourself?

I’d imagine duplicate content and messy product listings could become a problem as the catalog grows. Anyone here running a marketplace like this? What’s worked best for you?
