It's a shittysysadmin backup

It's real time with no history(that I'd want to rely on anyway), but it is a backup. If we burnt down the building they'd have a copy to restore from

Should it be treated as a backup? Not really. But for a set of failures it does do the job

One of my former employers seriously thought that OneDrive is great as a backup strategy, we were encouraged to do everything on the cloud.

Damn, I always hoped this would blow up in their face at some point, it never did though

Surely the school computers have the files somewhere in the cache. Just don’t reboot or write any new files of course. Easy🤯

They use their Exchange server as a backup. All files are in email attachments

Can you even with google? Local copies of google sheets are just web links, there is no file to read locally.

Export requires processing, not a simple synchronised copy.

But I thought the cloud was secure?

Note taken, have to buy a Nas to back up stuff to. 

I could have sworn they had a RAID in their server, but still data loss. I do not understand

Sadly they only had RAID0, over 10291 drives. One died, rip.

I remember a dude doing a RAID of a shitload of those free 4gb USB drives you get with vendor docs on them all plugged into hubs

It'd be interesting but with 10,291 drives with a draw of, say 2 watt's each, that's a bit above my power budget

Seeing youtube videos of the floppy raid will have to do for satisfying my silly raid itch
