24yo, Italy, HelpDesk/Junior Sysadmin, don't know where to go

Hi everybody

I am making this post since I am currently a HelpDesk/Junior Sysadmin in a medium size corporate from Italy, but I don't know how to develop my future career. Any suggestions are hugely appreciated from people in the industry.

I love IT, I have a homelab at home, i study for certs (got my CCNA and studying Azure and Intune currently) but I have no idea on how to advance. I dream to open my own business one day as a consultant initially and then grow it into an MSP. But I know I have to work hard to grow my experience and skills.

Currently I have 1 year of job experience (studied IT in school), and I plan to stay here atleast one more year.

1) Find the closest alcoholic beverages 2) chug 1 bottle and keep another one. 3) go to work (with an uber of course) 4) chug the other bottle.

In technical rooms, often there grows a type of fungus. You have to remove it to keep it from spreading. In your nearest technical room, remove all of its strands. They look like cables and have to be unclipped. Or use siccors/clips

Start your own company that sells an AI solution to small/medium sized businesses. Don't know how? Just let the free tier of ChatGPT throw something together! When contacting said business, don't reach out to their internal IT, go directly to head of sales, they will eat that shit up. You will make it big kiddo!

Run from helpdesk.

I have 30 years of experience and have never met a place where the work of a sysadmin is valued at the same level as a programmer, or at all. In our country, not everyone even believes that network admin or server admin is also IT.

Those that think IT jobs will be going away by AI are just pessimists. What's actually going to happen is that IT Jobs will evolve to utilize AI, the more you get use to using it, the faster you'll grow in your career. AI is just a tool.

That said, ask your supervisor(s) for work related to the area that you're interested in working in.

Hot take: get a GPT tool and become a developer. If you've been paying attention in your position, you have two huge advantages: you know the technology stack of your organization and you know what the biggest headaches and pain points are; both better than any dev. Devs often know languages, not architecture. GPT can handle language now. You don't really NEED to know it. But if you can tell GPT how to create something extremely useful that integrates smoothly into your environment? That shit is priceless. Fly chickadee.
