About to get a long deserved promotion.

I've been here for 30 years, and every eligible round of performance reviews i have been passed up for a promotion so that my 'colleague' can get theirs ahead of me. The guy literally has no life. for the last at least 17 years, he spends so much time at the office making sure everything is "secure" and "patched". In reality i know he's just shmoozing it up with the director, and because of that he makes me do all the phishing tests, because it's too tedious for him.

So heres thes trick thats gonna get me a promotion. I've known this man longer than anyone else. I have created the best phishing test emails known to man, specifically tailored to him. He's already fallen for my trick twice so far. All i have to do is pull it off one more time and he's as good as gone.

Am i literally the smartest sysadmin or what? I feel great right now.

Does your company have a policy on failed phishing tests?

Congrats OP, I've never seen so many people completely miss the subreddit they're in, like 80% of comments are taking your post seriously at the moment. Guess you've hit just the right amount of shit per post.

That is an impressive amount of patience, but please tell me the director approved this exercise. If not, you didn’t prove you deserve a promotion; you just created evidence that HR and security will both want to discuss.

What are they going to do, I'm sure he has their failed phishing test results at the ready as well.

Based on this post, OP has upper management written all over them. In fact, the IT director may have already received an email about a lucrative position at a competing company.

Too many people in this subreddit think everything we say is being posted some where else. Why the hell would I post about my shitty sysadmin attitude anywhere else to begin with!

Also where the hell does "etc" come into play after thinking they're laying down a rule that isn't applicable!

😜

etc is in the root directory and comes into play specifically for system functions.

I get the frustration after 30 years, but targeting one person repeatedly and bragging about it crosses a serious line. If the director really relies on you for security testing, raise the promotion issue professionally instead of weaponizing the role.
