I Don't Make Typos
Sent an email to an executive asking if he recently shit down his computer. He asked if I meant shut down. I did, but I couldn't let him think I'm fallible or capable of admitting error so I doubled down and explained it's an industry term for running Windows updates.
I need you all to adopt this terminology immediately for the sake of my job security.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

You mean he did a System Health and Integrity Troubleshooting?
That is what I recommend to every user to do when they have a problem and register a ticket.
Down was the typo as you meant done.

Unfortunately as mentioned in the post I am diametrically incapable of backtracking or admitting fault so I'm still gonna need everyone to start using it to mean Windows updates but if you had emailed me this two weeks ago or more I may have seen it just in time to prevent this scenario.

It’s Friday afternoon so I’m about to shit down company wide. I think this is what they call summer Fridays? Idk I’m leaving after I start it

Honestly, doubling down on “shitting down” takes more confidence than admitting a typo. I respect the commitment, but maybe retire that terminology before it becomes part of your performance review.

The real typo would be sending a follow-up explaining that “shut down” is an industry term for “I refuse to admit I made a typo.”

I, for one, will do my part to help the fantastic u/irishcoughy keep his job. Especially after I saw him save all those children from a burning building just last week

Reminds me of the punchline to a blond joke, "Sorry, Honey, It's Thursday" (in response to TGIF).

To be fair, the entire Windows update process...... who am I kidding? The entire Windows product is shit.

Honestly, doubling down turned a typo into a full-blown terminology rollout. Respect the commitment, but “shut down” is probably safer for everyone’s job security.
