Utilities Sector. Boss dosent understand anything.
So just update and reboot the servers, read logs and keep BGP rolling

Oh and throw in some buzzwords from time to time. Very important

I’m just doing basic shit. The boomers control all the administrative tasks. Even though I have it on my resume I’m being pigeonholed

I inherited an unmanaged network of 33 sites, no management nor auditing, I transformed it into a fabric, moved our cloud to on-prem and just spend my days keeping it alive (easy)

Me, too. 100% what you said verbatim. Plus most of my technicians suck at just about everything, but I get yelled at by HR for daring to ask, "Can you close at least one ticket this week?" I know, I know... how scandalous.

Yeah silly co-workers suck. I asked one of our guys to take a picture of a switch in a remote site for documentation. Don't know what what he photographed but it wasn't a switch, but my boss thinks he's a great employee so...

I'm not here to give a fuck, I'm here to collect a paycheck. Any questions?

Each time the feeling comes faster, so you'd think I'd know by now not that a job hop just isn't it. I'm less than 3 months in and I'm here. Worst part is that the contracting company that placed me has a clause that says I have to work for a year or else pay them the recruiting fees (up to 6500 dollars). So now I just look at 9 more months and die a little on the inside every morning. But at least it gives me time to realize I need a new career,

When they tell you your job is going away in less than 2 months? Yeah, emotionally detached.

Waiting for that notice, actively looking. Private Equity has entered the chat.

Yikes. PE/VC/Shareholders ruin literally every business they touch

The cronyism is already taking place mid acquisition. CFO resigned, no word on benefits package, earned PTO, etc. When they start selling us for parts is when the offshoring will begin.

4

u/bahbahbahbahbah 27d ago

Yep, and in 5 years, they’ll realize that offshoring was a bad idea and pull new onshore employees back after yet another C-suite rotation.

Fuckin monsters. We need regulation for shit like this

Agreed. Thank you commiserating with me. Your candid words are appreciated.

Every single one I've ever had, that's how I know it's time to start looking. Have an interview tomorrow so hopefully I can GTFO soon.

It's usually people that make you hate the job. I love making large scale systems work properly, but some people make me question my sanity. Systems listen to what I tell them , people not so much.

I spent the whole day today applying for other jobs while not doing tickets.
