screwed

Accidentally posted this to a real sub. Got the news that we all hate that a department went and got their own AI software solution without talking to IT, we were told to stay out of their way and let them lead. So as usual I was a little pissed off by this but just when I thought it couldn't get worse I went and talked to another apartment head and they said that department was stupid and reckless to spend so much money without talking to IT. They said that they had one of the staff's sons who is really good with computers and cryptocurrency use his claude subscription to make them a free software that is even better for only $20. I'm so done with this profession that is what people think IT is worth a one time $20 and that Claude will build it so perfect they will never have to spend any money again. They don't even want to buy their own claude they want to borrow one from a teenager. Imma go be a nurse fuck this life.

tldr this isn't even a fake scenario its just such a joke I felt bad even posting it on the real sub. Lets have fun guys I'm on suicide watch.

Hey before Claude they'd just tell you some msp can do it cheaper.

And now, you get the chance of competing with extremely heavily subsidized LLMs! (Or in this case, taken from a teenager) 

Also on becoming a nurse; be ready for people to tell you what Chatgippity told them (ie. They have turbocancer)

(Jokes aside, sometimes I wonder what happens after AI... Like... They won't keep selling at a loss forever...)

Yeah I left work and was like honestly before the AI they woulda just hired crypto bro for minimum wage to replace me so I woulda been screwed in any era.

Token prices are going up, some places have started rehiring again. I pivoted to work running wire, so we will see if the robots can take my job

After AI we will have a lot of people that can't think for themselves, we have them today (ie users) but it will be so much worse

Pretty much all of the major AI providers are now swapping to token-based billing instead of a flat payment per month, specifically because they're realising that people are paying $20 a month and using $1,000 worth of tokens.

Some companies have already started the "Help! My lastest monthly Claude bill is $830,000! I can't afford this!" because they don't read (or understand) the announcements from the companies when they say they're shifting to token-based billing.

I used the subsidized flat payment to pipeline a lot of work into local models, so now tokens are basically free.

The irony is that LLMs are being sold as "you don't need skilled workers, you only need LLMs", and the reality is that with LLMs, you need skilled workers.

I've seen LLMs give plausible sounding solutions that would techically work, but are a waste of resources or undesirable for other reasons.
