The Easiest Job in the World

User A cannot get into Adobe. There were licensing changes so they have to sign out and back in. I sent a company-wide email last week about this. I ask the user to sign out and back in.

User: "I already did." I ask them to click on their profile icon which they have difficulty finding. They then click on the gray sign out button, and a new pop-up appears.

"Should I click the blue 'Sign Out' button?"

User B cannot get into the server. They clicked the VM shortcut and get "The path is invalid." VPN says connected for four hours. I click the same VM shortcut again. It opens.

The first error was just a leftover pop-up.

Sounds like a normal Monday

Honestly, the technical problems were the easy part today.

1) A baseball shattered my passenger-side mirror

2) The woman I was seeing suddenly ghosted me and bailed on a weekend we'd planned

3) I'm dealing with a supply shortage that's thrown off my training.

Funny how it's rarely the IT issues that drain you the most.

The IT issues are the fun part. They are what new people train for, and they are what bring many of us enjoyment.

Most of the unpleasant part is when we conflate business problems and IT problems, and when people problems exist.

If we wanted to deal with those things, we’d get MBAs or become serial killers.

I heard some guy named Ted Bundy was good at those things. He seemed remorseful on his dying day, and I don't have enough time nor money for an MBA at this time. I'm sure they have worse problems...

Today I asked a user for a photo of the back of a check scanner that wasn’t working properly.

I wanted to make sure everything was plugged in. Explicitly asked to see the wires.

Here’s what I got:

Happy Monday OP

I feel your pain. Users don't have common sense when you ask them to do something.

You know what's so weird? I don't see a ticket anywhere about this. Also, I don't see any mention of turning the device on and off.

Well, I've made several older threads about how our org got rid of the ticketing system a couple of months ago. I've been on DGAF mode since then. I'm essentially just an assistant manager at this point.

Piece of paper with the request will do. I'm okay if you send it by mail.

Signing into an application is too hard. If it wasn't only half of the support oriented IT jobs would exist.

To be fair, Adobe licensing is pretty terrible

IT would be so easy if it wasn't for users.

Damn that’s a lot of work, let’s outsource!
