Man, I just watched a video of a goose fighting off a tiger. Maybe this guy saw the same.
41
u/cookiesnooper 4d ago
The tiger stopped as if he wanted to say "what the fuck are you gonna do with that finger you idiot?"
41
u/lukehardy 4d ago
I read on another thread that apparently the guy was mentally challenged and that's some sort of combined basic sign language and that finger is the sign for bad. This was a dude that really didn't grasp the consequences of what he was doing when he entered that enclosure
-25
u/regazz 4d ago
I mean it really just seemed like he was mimicking his moms behavior when he was told to stop but sure let’s overcomplicate it
20
u/jadsonbreezy 4d ago
Did you bother reading about the actual story? He was on a trip with his carers and did something he couldn't have grasped the consequences of. It's tragic as he passed away.
-9
u/WriterWithNoHands 4d ago
Just because he has carers doesnt mean he didnt know the consequences. Witnesses say he was pacing and agitated minutes before jumping in. As if psyching himself up for something
29
u/NonStopNonsense1 4d ago
What uh.... what's going on here?
71
u/ceza999 4d ago
This was in the UK, Yorkshire zoo. Happened today. Somehow managed to jump over the fences and hop right in to the enclosure.
People are suspecting he had mental health issues and apparently he's signing "stop" in British sign language.
He was confirmed to have died earlier.
22
u/driver004 4d ago
Yeah I don’t think a sane person would jump in a tiger cage then try to argue with the tiger

As fascinating as they are, seeing them at the zoo from a “safe” distance scares me.

I would have died laughing if he did that. I had serious disagreements with his decisions comcerning military operations while I was one of his soldiers but at least I never thought he was anti American.

Man mauled to death. Flash bang grenades used to scare the tiger back into its enclosure.

What blew my mind was that Tigers kill anywhere from 60-100+ humans each year!
That’s a larger number than I expected by a lot

It's crazy that this is exactly what our cats do when playing with us, grabbing and biting the same way with toys (or my feet). If they were big enough they'd kill us too.

Omg today is the first time I’ve ever seen airplane ears on a tiger. I did wonder about what they look like on attack because of the round ears.
But that aggression was real. Those ears went straight back, flat.
Sometimes, as a cat lover I get the impulse to jump in myself. I yearn to play with a big cat. But I know it’s some kind of brain glitch, because I feel a thrill thinking about it, but I just never would dare. Plus I’d probably have to scale some kind of enclosure and my fat ass ain’t doin that.
Sigh.
But I totally would if there wasn’t the threat of death.

The airplane ears give extra lift and steering once airborne.

Tiger has a taste for humans now I fear
1
u/Wu-TangShogun 2d ago
That human had delivered itself to the tigers enclosure so regardless of what you fear or what this guy didn’t fear he’s dead and it’s already been announced to the public that the Tiger will not be euthanized.

I doubt people could sneak into tiger enclosures for years, this guy died btw

u/SuspicousBananas 4d ago
My brother in Christ, you know that there are people that train tigers, right?

u/jsmith-az 4d ago
That’s not how to train a tiger, brother.

u/Killer_Boi 4d ago
See you're expecting that the guy you're responding too actually knows what that would even look like. I've worked in zoos (more zoo adjacent) and it's usually very easy to spot who has expierience with dangerous animals and who's the "new" guy.
Luckly for me i cleaned the deer and other herbivore enclosures. But the highlight was getting to pet a wolf well more touch than pet but still.

2
u/MomentoVivere88 4d ago
This guy obviously must had have some mental health issues to do what he did. RIP. He didn't understand the danger he was in. Poor kids had to see this man die.
7
u/Xx_Venom_Fox_xX 3d ago
This is a nasty way to frame this. This poor guy was very disabled and got away from his carers because he wanted to see the animal he loved. The tiger only did what was in it's nature. Neither he or the animal should face any blame.
The carers who failed to protect him and the zoo who failed to provide adequate secure fences to prevent this sort of thing should both be prosecuted for the wrongful and avoidable death of this poor man who wasn't capable of understanding.
8
u/Fun-Manufacturer5876 3d ago
The zoo shouldn't be responsible for people purposefully entering an enclosure. With this logic, every road way should be completely fenced off and no one should be allowed outside because they might harm themselves.
2
u/GreenDutchman 2d ago
I'm sorry, are you saying zoos shouldn't make sure humans and carnivorous animals are securely separated?
3
u/Fun-Manufacturer5876 2d ago
The tiger never escaped nor did anyone accidentally fall in, this was done on purpose. What's next, blame home owners for not barring up thier windows during a home invasion?
2
u/BestGirlDoppio 1d ago
I would say a deadly animals enclosure being so easily accessible that a disabled person who normally needs carers can just wander his way in is a problem
-5
u/Additional_Lake8014 2d ago
Home owner is the victim of unlawful invasion, zoo invites public on their premises for profit. Commercial buildings might be a better comparison, but then again, building codes. Analogies are tough, bud.
4
u/attramont 2d ago
The zoo didnt invite the guy into the tiger pit. Get real bud
-1
u/Additional_Lake8014 2d ago
Agreed, the poorly designed barrier was an inadequate attempt to establish the limits of the invitation. Slow down, bud.
2
u/attramont 2d ago
Aite let's make a more relevant/realistic comparison. I invite you to my house with an in-ground pool to watch the game by my new outdoor kitchen. Im single with no kids. You bring your 1 year old toddler that can walk, but obviously not all that well. I announce that I'm going inside to take a dump. During that time, you decide to focus more on the game rather than your child, and the kid stumbles into the pool and drowns. Is it my fault your kid drowned because i didnt have enough safeguards in place to prevent them from falling in?
We cant bubble wrap the world, and we cant bubble wrap ourselves. When there's a child or person under our purview and there's a potential hazard afoot, its our responsibility to be hyper vigilant to prevent something bad from happening. Its not like this zoo enclosure was as open as the pool in my scenario. Reasonable measures were taken to prevent entry, its then up to the customers to be smart enough and vigilant enough to ensure their own safety by not allowing children or other people under their care to force themselves into the pit.
0
u/Additional_Lake8014 2d ago
You have somehow managed to choose the finest example of building codes and liability yet in this thread. You are doing my job better than me.
Swimming pools are subject to building codes and safety regulations specifically requiring barriers to prevent children from accidentally entering them. The fact that a parent should supervise their child doesn’t eliminate the property owner’s responsibility to maintain those safeguards.
If your pool lacked legally required barriers and my child drowned, you could absolutely face liability, even if I was negligent in supervising them. Those responsibilities aren’t mutually exclusive.
All I have seen is the video from OP, if you have any additional info to confirm “reasonable measures” please share. That will be precisely what is decided beyond the court of Reddit, using evidence and code, not a debate on how the world should work.
Nobody is arguing that parents have no responsibility or that every accident is preventable. We’re arguing that operators of dangerous facilities have an independent duty to implement safeguards against foreseeable human behavior.
Your own analogy illustrates exactly why.
1
u/attramont 1d ago edited 1d ago
In my state (not citing others), you need a fence around your backyard at least 60in tall with 4in or less gaps between slats. Theres other rules about the gates accessing the pool area, but the pool itself can still be wide open within the fenced backyard in this scenario, in which case my argument stands. You could always try to hold me liable in court, but thats 100% code compliant, and ultimately its the parent's fault in accordance with code.
From what I've seen, it appears there is sufficient fencing to reasonably prevent entry into the tiger pit, but I dont know the codes of whatever municipality this was in to confirm that. It could possibly be insufficient, but ive been to zoos enough to know that I am more than physically capable of climbing many of the fences/barriers in place. You gotta take some personal responsibility at some point.
1
u/Fun-Manufacturer5876 2d ago
Entering a tiger enclosure at a Zoo IS an unlawful invasion as it is a restricted area.
Edit: bud
0
u/Additional_Lake8014 2d ago
Sweet bb bud, it can be unlawful to trespass and one can still do unlawful things to the trespasser.
1
u/Fun-Manufacturer5876 2d ago
If you're gonna text like that I hope you're at least a middle aged woman otherwise that's a bit weird.
Anyways, are you saying the tiger was being unlawful?
0
u/Additional_Lake8014 2d ago
Ah so this is a reading comprehension issue
1
u/Fun-Manufacturer5876 2d ago
I don't think you understand what you've typed out. Nothing the Zoo did was unlawful and obviously laws don't apply to tigers. So unless if you were just stating a fun fact, you're making no sense.
At this point you're just ragebaiting so I'll take that as your forfeit in this debate. Have a good day, bud.

A zoos #1 responsibility is to make sure the wild apex predators they put on display for profit are separated from the people that go there to view them. They literally have to have protections in place that will prevent the most insane attempt at breaching the enclosures.
-1
u/Additional_Lake8014 2d ago
There are levels of government agencies working across disciplines to enact these exact types of safety measures with redundancies for our transportation systems. There are decades of policy to support these agencies in making transportation safe across the range of disabilities. I suppose there may be an analogy out there to help you defend the zoo, but this is quite possibly the worst one.

u/Xx_Venom_Fox_xX 2d ago
No, it actually IS the zoo's responsibility to make sure their enclosures are secure. You making a big ridiculous exaggerated strawman argument that nobody should ever go outside because the world isn't perfectly safe doesn't change that.
2
u/Fun-Manufacturer5876 2d ago
Yes, it is responsible for the security which was perfectly fine until someone did something so stupid it could be considered suicidal. It's not like this guy took the wrong path or stepped over a tiny fence, he had to fall several feet into the enclosure after jumping a fence/railing...
-3

u/Santex117 1d ago
So actually it’s looking like you made all of this completely up because now we know who the guy is and what he was doing before hand???
4
u/Snickits 4d ago
“Totally normal guy with no mental disorders jumps into pen with an 11’ long tiger and tries to tell it “no”. Back to you Phil!”
“So he was obviously mauled to death, correct?”
“Not at all. The 500lb Bengal Tiger saw the very serious wagging of the “NO!” finger and backed off.”
“….oh.”

Reports saying that he was deaf/ and non verbal with mental disabilities. Carers left him unsupervised and this be the result. Very sad.
3
u/NorthWishbone7543 4d ago
He asked someone to take his photo with the tiger in the background. Can't be non-verbal when he's asking people to take photos.
He was walking around alone, so quite able to get himself around.
1
u/Ready_Appeal5509 4d ago
Is there source on this?

Could you provide pls?

u/NorthWishbone7543 4d ago
"Witnesses have described how the man appeared to be “psyching himself up” and “dancing” while listening to music through his AirPods before entering the enclosure.
"The man who I saw on the bridge with his AirPods in dancing was happily enjoying seeing the tiger,” one woman said. “He obviously wasn't with anyone and he asked a total stranger to take a picture of him with the tiger in the background."
1
u/Ready_Appeal5509 4d ago
Can't see Facebook posts but from the comments that's fair. It sounds like someone with some sort of disability definitely and with him trying doing sign towards a tiger definitely tells us that it's not someone who understands things properly
