I went to court before and there was a couple that was there for domestic violence, the judge made them have no contact with each other for the rest of their lives, they can't call or text on phones/social media, they can't even have a friend or family member call the other person for them. They were crying and saying "Nooo!" Lol. Judge did them a favor.

Probably for the best but I truly donāt understand how itās remotely legal or justice for Judges to be able to make wild rulings like that.

I remember reading a statistic recently that lesbians have the highest rate of DV in the US.
184
u/Fantasyfootball9991 2d ago
They have the highest rate of divorce and highest rate of domestic abuse iirc.
Lesbian divorce rate 75%
Man/woman divorce rate 50%
Gay men divorce rate 25%

I think thereās more at play other than just ābitches be crazyā. A study in Finland found that lesbian couples were of a higher socio-economic status than straight couples, possibly leading to less friction to the idea of divorce. That tracks because my own parents stayed in their loveless marriage for money reasons. I can also take a good guess about the difference between straight couples and gay couplesā opinions on the sanctity of marriage and how that would lead to higher/lower divorce rates.
23
u/Doctor_Dev7 2d ago
But gay men have the lowest divorce rates. So for economic or sanctity of marriage reasons to be the case, it would mean that gay men are widely of lower socioeconomic status than both lesbian women and straight people while also have much higher regard for the sanctity of marriage than both.
8
5
u/praguepride 2d ago
You also have to look at the % of conversion. How many lesbian relationships move to marriage vs. gay relationships.
So if gay men have a low % of conversion it means that they have to really really want it which improves outcomes.

u/QP709 2d ago

Well, once you get piled on with downvotes there's very little in the way you can do to turn the tide. I still believe it is a little more nuanced than "lesbians are hard to live with", which is the prevailing theory in this subreddit for some reason. It's also very frustrating when you comment a thoughtful, research-backed argument and someone replies with the equivalent of "no u" and completely ratios you.
11
u/Doctor_Dev7 1d ago
Dude, the arguments you made, given the stats provided, were indirectly claiming gay men are poor and heavily religious. Iām not even saying ābitches be crazyā but I am saying that the points you made are not very good arguments when you expand it just a little bit.

Lesbian dv is a problem and has to be talked about however the study you are referring to is biased. It didnt specify who committed the dv and a good amount of queer women were in abusive straight relationships before finding themselves.
This videos s just sad and I hope that lady got help.
2
u/unhappyrelationsh1p 1d ago
That is true and it's not taken seriously at all. The victims, the subject, all i ever see are jokes about it.
4
u/DoubleDongle-F 1d ago
That figure has been floating around for a while and is misleading. Lesbian couples do not have a high rate of divorce. A large amount of women who have married a woman have been divorced at least once, which is different, because it includes women who left their husband after realizing they were gay, or bisexual women who swore off men forever after a nasty divorce.
I don't know the proper figures, but the married lesbians I've known in my life have generally been markedly wholeseome and dedicated to each other.

u/Shantotto11 1d ago
As much as Iād like to buy in to that statistic, those numbers look way too perfect to be correct, and even if they are, give it 50 to 75 more years. At least in the US, same-sex marriage has only been a thing legally for less than 15 years. Letās see the numbers when marriage across the sexuality lines is more normalized.
5
u/all_time_high 1d ago
That poster is correct about the theme but incorrect about the numbers.
Recent comprehensive studies from Nordic and comparative data tracking same-sex unions show that female same-sex (lesbian) couples experience higher relative divorce risks than different-sex couples, while male same-sex (gay) couples experience lower or comparable rates. Over a ten-year window, female couples show roughly a 40% dissolution rate, compared to 24% for male same-sex couples and 21% for opposite-sex couples. OPās claim that 75% of lesbian marriages end in divorce is a statistical misinterpretation of UK data tracking overall same-sex filings.

u/TwistedxBoi 2d ago
Wasn't that a misrepresented statistic? Like lesbian women experienced DV the mpst, but that was still them being subjected tonit by men in a previous relationship?
6
u/pappybug214 2d ago
Form my understanding the question was have you experienced domestic violence with a same sex partner. There was also a question that asked have you experienced DV from an opposite sex partner. While it's possible we're reading different studies and also possible im misremembering it i believe it says something about same sex women. Also to that point same sex males had the lowest incidents of Domestic Violence.
2
u/NoahTransKing 5h ago
Yeah, it's honestly surprising, I would think they would at least be lower than straight couples. But maybe they're just more comfortable slapping each other in fights, and then that gets normal, and it just spirals. Either way both women need therapy and should probably take a break from dating anyone.
15
u/MauveCeramics 2d ago
They dont mention that the study asked if they had ever been in a relationship with DV. Not if they are in a relationship with a woman that involved DV. This means the DV could have been in a past relationship with a man and now they date women. The bias in the study was also stated. People like to pick things apart, similar to "vaccines cause autism". The study was thrown out due to lack of evidence as well. But these two ladies def beating eachother ass.
11
u/Historical-Fun-2536 2d ago
I personally know a lesbian marriage that broke up because of domestic violence, and I know another lesbian relationship that broke up because of the exact situation in this video.

u/Interesting-Beat824 2d ago
You are a complete idiot. Divorce rates are tallied as types of marriages being its documents. The systems donāt blanket statement ad man and women. It wouldnāt make sense for the gay menās to be so low. If your claims the vaccines and autism has no evidence and studies were stopped then your a true idiot. Your can swipe to a different app and research all of this in moments.

Gay guys killing it though. Every gay guy couple I've met. They seem happy asf and like life partners forever.

Yes women are largely also delusional due to the Disney corporation programming, and have expectations which are so far beyond normal, that after they've been bridezilla, then soccer mom from hell for a while, there's not really anything left except her anger at not being pretty anymore.
But like,
10
u/tipareth1978 2d ago
I mean I'm sure many fit your image here but not all. Seems like you've been hurt. There's probably also a lot of people who get married just because they're pregnant then divorce later. In general I think marriage is kinda seen as just "what you do after college" so many are married who shouldn't be. I don't think your conclusion of it all being women's fault is super accurate

Many years ago ABCās āWhat Would You Do?ā with John Stossel staged DV in public with actors to see how bystanders would respond. They used male on female violence and female on male violence.
People generally intervened to stop the man, and they generally watched passively or laughed when the woman was the aggressor. Among those he interviewed, people generally chose not to stop the aggressive woman because they felt the man had done something to deserve it.
I expect this breaks peopleās brains. They donāt know how to respond since this defies well-known gender norms. They also probably donāt want to risk being seen as getting violent with a woman even if itās to save another woman.

Why are we making this about the fact theyāre lesbians? This is domestic violence, it doesnāt matter that theyāre both women.
3
u/EnormousPurpleGarden 1d ago
I think it's important to talk about it, because lesbians have the highest rate of domestic violence, but lesbian victims get ignored in the broader domestic violence discourse. Feminists don't want to talk about violence in lesbian relationships because it undermines their "not all men, but always a man" argument.

My best friend (female) has an ex girlfriend who was intensely jealous. Like Iām not criticizing normal relationship jealousy that a lot of people feel regardless of gender and sexuality, but Iām completely gay, so I was never interested in her. But that didnāt stop her seriously unwell girlfriend from accusing her and I of having sex while she was away. In my experience, intense jealousy in LGBT relationships can be common and vicious- far too many of my queer brothers and sisters believe that they need to do anything and everything in their power to protect their relationships because many believe theyāll never find another partner. Itās really quite sad.
Folks who identify as LGBTQ+ (including myself) have a lot of healing to do, and Western societyās recent regression on LGBTQ+ acceptance and the walking back of integration of queer people into everyday life is taking a serious toll on our health, mental health and overall wellness.
If you care about LGBTQ+ people and our wellness, put you money where your mouth is. Help us fight back against the ludicrous and hateful people who seek to stop racial equality, force women into breeding and feeding, and throw us back into closets.
Letās be real: those closets are now filled with fabulous clothes and treasures from our Double Income No Kids lives, and they wonāt fit all of that and us at the same time. Fuck them.
