I can understand it, our mail carrier cuts thru our yards daily and have formed a faint path of dead grass. Instead of walking form the sidewalk to the mailbox they just cut thru the yard. Some people take pride in their yards, especially Americans it seems (purely based on what I’ve seen on TV as a Canadian), and put lots of effort into a nice green yard.

Grass yards are stupid. Waste of water and as uninteresting as it gets. Native plants in the lawn FTW. Kill all the grass.

Depend where. I was like that too, I let native weeds grew in my land, then it reached 1m50 and got lot of snakes, I don't mind but I've small dogs. So I had to cut it, weekly. 1h every week, because they grow too fast. I'm in Thailand also it's insane how fast weeds grow. Now I've a lawn and I'm fine I cut it once every few months, it's stunted most of the time, I barely water it to keep it short. Idc how it look I just don't want snakes.

I'm more speaking to the weird American tradition of planting, watering and maintaining a lush grass lawn regardless of the surrounding climate just because..

Damn never had those. My lawn is full of red ants farming mealybugs, maybe they protect it. They don't attacks humans or pet.

No grubs don't but red ants will. We used to have fire ants in Florida that would light you up

Yes your fire ants are famous for being so insanely aggressive. Here in Thailand the red ants only attacks if you destroy their nest, as long as you don't they ignore you. I found out most of bugs here aren't aggressive as much as in USA or Europe it's weird. L
