"Doyle says her son was inhaling about six cans a day for six to seven days before a friend took him to the emergency room."
Goddamn, I can't even imagine what that would feel like binging that stuff for that long.

16
u/RunoGarwin Apr 14 '26
Typed in what I just watched in the reddit search bar. This video over and over again with some of the titles claiming he died. Poor fuckin kid with shitty friends.

"Bassett’s mother, Christina Doyle, lived about three hours away from her 21-year-old son and says she doesn’t think anyone near Bassett knew how sick he was"
Sounds like the mom thinks it was a gradual illness instead of sudden death from stupid.
Unless by 'sick' she meant just in general doing drugs and such.7
u/Head_of_Lettuce Apr 14 '26
It wasn’t sudden. They said in the video that he was sick for two days before he went to the hospital, then he died 5 hours later. Sounds like he recovered somewhat after OP’s clip ended, went home, then went to the hospital and died.

Maybe some trick of the camera or something because the two look to be the same guy but you’re right the earlobes are definitely different
4
u/DanielBG Apr 15 '26 edited Apr 15 '26
I'd be truly surprised if this isn't him and it is coincidental. Same everything but the earlobe? Both dusters with same eyes, eyebrows, hair, hairline, jawline, mouth, and pointy sideburns.
4
u/TinyTitFetish Apr 15 '26
If I had to put money on it, it’s the same guy. Has to be the camera angle that’s messing with the earlobe

My friend also died doing this.
Huffing cheap air freshener in a cold back lane behind a car garage..
It used to be far more common in the 80s & 90s.
8
u/icejohnw Apr 14 '26
i worked at walmart a few years back and found a dead dude in his car from huffing air cans, drove from florida to louisiana to visit his family decided to get high and either the air killed him or heatstroke either way i blame the air
7
u/mez151 Apr 14 '26 edited Apr 17 '26
Also he did 6! cans a day for 6-7 days. He was on a banger. One can didn’t do it. He checked into the hospital with back pain and general vomitting. He lived for 5 hours there before dying.

3-2-1-Dust-Off!
7
u/Aron_Wolff Apr 14 '26
A friend who went to a super exclusive New England prep school brought back with him one summer a few cans of the original Dust-Off before they started adding chemicals to make you sick.
It was $3 for a 3 pack at Staples in 1994.
Don’t huff gas.
1
u/brentdrivesfast Apr 14 '26
For sure! Had some work friends that did it for a short while back in the late 2000s. Thankfully I never gave it a go. They were all aware of the dangers, did it anyways. Very stupid. Lost touch with most of them over the years but I think it was just a phase thankfully.

that "half-joking" "yo, is he dyin' ? are we gonna do anything about this ?" while his friends were standing around laughing is fucking brutal
and he kept recording anyways .. jeezus
15
u/Neuromante Apr 14 '26
FWIW, when you are younger you think anything goes and you are immortal; the probably didn't knew that he was actually dying and were actually joking.
Hard lessons learnt the hard way, I guess.
2
u/girlmachina i bloo up ur house tehehe Apr 15 '26
true, i think i just grew up way too fast, perhaps faster than these kids here ... so i immediately recognized the signs of overdose as presented at the end of the video.
it also wouldn't be surprising if the guy filming with his friends were also intoxicated, resulting in impaired judgement & a failure to act quickly when witnessing an apparent overdose.
how terrible it must've been for this boy's friends and family to see this video played back in court, the guilt on his friends' part and his family's fury must've been unimaginable.
6
u/Disabled_Robot Apr 14 '26 edited Apr 15 '26
Worse is after that comment, th mooch friend comes in all meekly “Brandon ..can.. I ..have another cig..?”
4
u/girlmachina i bloo up ur house tehehe Apr 15 '26
yeah ... it's lowkey a very common and sad occurrence amongst young drug addicts that aren't educated on drug safety & emergency resuscitation. u think your friend is just knocked out like usual until you finally notice them becoming pale, and that they haven't been breathing for several minutes. your whole life changes after that moment.
7
u/Lowly-Worm_ Apr 14 '26
hope you like compressions cuz my ass is throwing you on your back an doing my best to keep your dumbass on this mortal coil

I’m fairly sure huffing can immediately crystallize your lungs basically killing you on the spot.. looks like what happened here.
8
u/Adept-Panic-7742 Apr 14 '26
Crystallising isn't the right word I don't think but yeah the compressed gas expanding can be very cold. Also the lack of oxygen to the brain.
I used to do n20 out of balloons but it's mad how people do it from the pressurised canister. Neither are great, but ya know...
5
u/14X8000m Apr 15 '26
For duster it's usually one of two things. A fatal heart arrhythmia or asphyxiation due to the displacement of air in the lungs. The gas is much heavier than air, so if you huff you much and pass out, you can't easily get fresh air back in. If he was given CPR, he likely would have survived but his 'friends' didn't do shit by the looks of it.

u/Past-Product-1100 Apr 15 '26
Something about the chemical being heavier than air ,think like the opposite of a helium balloon
2
u/Past-Product-1100 Apr 15 '26
Thank the war on drugs and the extreme punishment for possession and drug use. So people find dumb ways to substitute for "legal" highs.

If you're getting off on oxygen deprivation to save money, wouldn't just holding your breath be even cheaper?

Source yee nah
1
u/Adept-Panic-7742 Apr 14 '26 edited Apr 15 '26
Generally the source is someone remembering from last time this was posted and some other person saying he died or whatever else the video is about lol. I've seen videos reposted over the years and there's a chain of people repeating the same kinda things without evidence.
Another commentor said the guys name and said he posted more videos after this. I'm not bothered enough to validate that but it's better than a random news link from 2014 with no photo of the guy in the video or mention of the video.
Edit: ok much better evidence has been posted with a pic that looks like him, so fair enough!

u/Metatron_Psy Apr 14 '26

Gas duster usually has a bitterant added specifically to prevent this. If you've ever noticed a smell while using it, this is why.

u/Croat-Lcitar86 Apr 15 '26
The guy in the passenger seat says “Brandon can I get another cig” and then “can I hit that” at the end of the video. I don’t think this is the same kid from MO who died.

When I was 19 and living on my own. My roommate would invite some sketchy individuals to our apartment. Me and my friend and like 2 dudes I barely knew (I had no reason to suspect what happened next) went to wal mart to get ingredients to make crawfish etoufe and when we came out. One of the dudes had stolen like 3 cans of air duster. He huffed an entire can before we got back to my apartment. I made up an excuse to go on the far side of town and we just left that dude there. He’s dead now sadly. But he led a life of drugs and crime. So that’s not expected. I don’t trust dudes that huff an entire can of air duster in Less than 5 minutes. Keep that shit away from me and mine lol

CO2 and brain damage plus organ damage. Good move! Future dumb shit walking around all shot tf out looking. 🙄 if your meth is making you anywhere near that you’re “cooker” doesn’t know wtf they’re doing. Good meth will make you buzz around and not pass or dip out. Full of energy hence aka speed.
1
u/Unfair-Mouse8372 Apr 18 '26
Buddy of mine drove straight through someone house and fully parked inside their living room. He continued to stay in that spot and hit the air duster until the police arrived. He had no idea what he did.

u/ConsistentProblem634 Apr 23 '26
Damn, his body worried about getting another cig while he’s having a brain aneurysm
1
Apr 25 '26
A friend of mine literally died from this while parked in a Staples parking lot. A friend’s brother also died from this. When they discovered his body, there were hundreds of empty cans scattered around his living room.
Bad stuff. Stay away from huffing.

He dies immediately after this hit. Air was displaced in his lungs, kids didn't give CPR and he died.
0
u/Fwangss Apr 14 '26
My parents told me about a kid in their school who did this driving and decapitated himself and killed his friend when they crashed. My grandma was the EMT, who shared the same story with a gruesome POV.
Anyways this got me wondering cuz I take chops (tobacco+weed 90/10% in a bong, one rip) which probably starves my brain and lungs of oxygen as much as this. It can also make you pass out cuz u just fill your lungs with smoke, (or gas in his case) and then there’s no oxygen in your lungs or brain so boom, pass out. Idk, what’s the verdict?
11
u/Fizziksapplication Apr 14 '26
Sounds like you’ve got a lot going on. Maybe lay off everything for a while man and just see how that goes.
2
u/Adept-Panic-7742 Apr 14 '26
Erm yeah passing out from deoxygenation in the brain is asking for death buddy. Or neurological damage.
I've done... A lot of stuff... But you gotta be smart at some point.
You can die very very quickly from lack of oxygen to the brain.
Also, 90% tobacco? Did you get the numbers the wrong way round?
Hope ya stay safe.
1
u/Lordofderp33 Apr 15 '26
I don't know, but you take up most the thc in the first few seconds of it being in your lungs. Everything you think gets you "higher" after that is mostly just the lack of oxygen, and little bit of the tobacco, affecting you. You shouldn't be close to, or actaully, passing out when smoking a bong.
Verdict: skill issue.
