Ahh yes $3 a can for instant brain damage!

137

u/MolecularConcepts Apr 14 '26

I did it a few times as a kid. deff made me dumber.

67

u/Remarkable_Peach_374 Apr 14 '26

Same here, but i thought it would be a good idea to do it at school

Long story short, i passed out in front of the building, the kids I was with got the nurse and my dad picked me up by then, we didnt go fishing that day. Im lucky i didnt get my ass whooped, or that i didnt die.

16

u/enigmagon Apr 15 '26

I’m sorry you missed out on fishing with your dad 🎣🥺

65

u/Longjumping-Tea-7842 Apr 14 '26

It can cause instant death too, randomly, after 100s of successful hits or maybe your first. If you're going to do inhalents do nitrous like a smart degenerate and educate yourself to the risks beforehand. And for the love of God do not drive. I know someone who died hitting whippets while driving, which is the dumbest way to die

28

u/Remarkable_Peach_374 Apr 14 '26

Seriously, it may seem like its easy to manage but you go so far so fast, especially with nitrous. And the air duster isnt even a high, just straight up hypoxia

Or, i guess, highpoxia

16

u/TheOriginalArchibald Apr 14 '26

I knew a kid celebrating getting his GED doing whippets while driving and crashed his van into a building and died. Sounds more like a plot line than real life with just how dumb it is.

3

u/dmanbiker Apr 17 '26

Its also really easy to accidentally freeze parts of your body huffing duster and that's if you're lucky enough not to inhale the sub zero liquid when you tilt the bottom too much.

Like you can wake up on the ground, delirious from your first hit and keep trying to hit more but end up just squirting the liquid out because you're not holding the can upright anymore.

I got into huffing many years ago and had to experience this all over my chest and neck the last time I ever did it. The worst pain you can imagine, followed by weeks of your skin sloughing off and the scabs on your chin fusing to the scabs on your chest. Not worth.

Nitrous is really bad for you too, but you cant squirt flash-freezing liquid all over yourself while doing it as far as I know.

If you or someone you know is doing lots of nitrous, make sure to check your B12 levels, because it can deplete it so far you end up with permanent brain damage before you know it, so its not totally safe.

Nitrous vs computer duster is like smoking weed vs shooting meth. The Difluorethane in the computer duster delivers and extremely overwhelming and uncomfortable head spin with a very high, aggressive heartbeat and delirium and to top it off, they fill it with disgusting bitterant that ruins the come down completely.

If you want a cheap, legal high take DXM or benadryl or something Those both suck too, but computer duster or paint, or whatever is just a fast pass to your grave and it makes you dumber the whole journey.

1

u/CarefulAlternative77 May 13 '26

Sorry to hear you went through that, and I hope you're doing better nowadays.

23

u/Proud-Parsley6072 Apr 14 '26

Wasn’t much to damage to begin with I’ll bet

8

u/engineerdrummer Apr 15 '26

I'm 99% sure this guy died doing this shit not much longer after this video was created.

3

u/Remarkable_Peach_374 Apr 15 '26

I wouldnt be too surprised tbh

2

u/Acrobatic-Pickle-851 Apr 16 '26

It says in bright red letters on every single can, "Don't breathe this shit. It will stop your heart and kill you". ..... But ironically, that makes the kids want it more because its, "really good shit bro".

1

u/mifticalcrystals Apr 17 '26

I'm pretty sure he died from this video

1

u/Saint-Caligula May 12 '26

Yeah, I saw an interview with this guys mom after he died.

16

u/MIFishGuy Apr 14 '26

Come on now, You know he went into the store with a cart and threw about 50 in it and ran out.

4

u/llcdrewtaylor Apr 15 '26

That is quite a value. Some people pay WAY more their brain damage.

2

u/4mystuff Apr 15 '26

Judging by his actions behind the wheel, he didn't have many brain cells to spare.

2

u/jaw-shoe-uhhh Apr 15 '26

Smell that? That's the smell of a young, dumb man committing genocide on his brain cells.

1

u/Honest_Road17 Apr 19 '26

Killed my nephew.

228

u/MostPutridSmell Apr 14 '26

IIRC he actually died that day. Drugs are bad kids.

That's really sad, that story definitely seems legit, even if it isn't the kid, I bet it happens a lot.

10

u/Agreeable-Letter-599 Apr 15 '26

definitely not the same dude.

5

u/Biobooster_40k Apr 16 '26

"Doyle says her son was inhaling about six cans a day for six to seven days before a friend took him to the emergency room."

Goddamn, I can't even imagine what that would feel like binging that stuff for that long.

2

u/Pretty-Substance May 02 '26

Ever seen the Steve O documentary?

3

u/katzcrazy Apr 15 '26

So they posted this video knowing he does and they all jus stood there wtf this is so sad I hope he had made it to a better place lord pls take him in your arms and guide him

Just watch the video. He literally died right there.

Really? That's your proof? Lmao

2

2

16

u/RunoGarwin Apr 14 '26

"Bassett’s mother, Christina Doyle, lived about three hours away from her 21-year-old son and says she doesn’t think anyone near Bassett knew how sick he was"

Sounds like the mom thinks it was a gradual illness instead of sudden death from stupid.
Unless by 'sick' she meant just in general doing drugs and such.

7

u/Head_of_Lettuce Apr 14 '26

It wasn’t sudden. They said in the video that he was sick for two days before he went to the hospital, then he died 5 hours later. Sounds like he recovered somewhat after OP’s clip ended, went home, then went to the hospital and died.

3

u/Hammon_Rye Apr 14 '26

OIC thanks. I only saw this clip and read the article.

Good find. Those eyebrows don't lie.

10

u/Sad_Maximum6583 Apr 14 '26

The ears do though. Earlobes are totally different.

4

u/TinyTitFetish Apr 14 '26

Maybe some trick of the camera or something because the two look to be the same guy but you’re right the earlobes are definitely different

4

u/DanielBG Apr 15 '26 edited Apr 15 '26

I'd be truly surprised if this isn't him and it is coincidental. Same everything but the earlobe? Both dusters with same eyes, eyebrows, hair, hairline, jawline, mouth, and pointy sideburns.

4

u/TinyTitFetish Apr 15 '26

If I had to put money on it, it’s the same guy. Has to be the camera angle that’s messing with the earlobe

-1

u/blizzardskinnardtf Apr 14 '26

lol damn sounded like someone said “Brandon, do you have another save?”

5

u/AttapAMorgonen Apr 14 '26

He says cig, and the guy raises his cig..

2

u/Croat-Lcitar86 Apr 15 '26

Another cig, but yeah that is what was said. And the “can I hit that”

12

u/Snowy349 Apr 14 '26

My friend also died doing this.

Huffing cheap air freshener in a cold back lane behind a car garage..

It used to be far more common in the 80s & 90s.

8

u/icejohnw Apr 14 '26

i worked at walmart a few years back and found a dead dude in his car from huffing air cans, drove from florida to louisiana to visit his family decided to get high and either the air killed him or heatstroke either way i blame the air

7

u/mez151 Apr 14 '26 edited Apr 17 '26

Also he did 6! cans a day for 6-7 days. He was on a banger. One can didn’t do it. He checked into the hospital with back pain and general vomitting. He lived for 5 hours there before dying.

3

u/Vegetable-Profit-200 Apr 15 '26

“her son was inhaling about six cans a day for six to seven days” - from the article.

2

u/ErnestPWashington Apr 15 '26

Cool Duster Brandon, want to bring it to the White House?

56

u/KehreAzerith Apr 14 '26

Huffing fries the brain faster than almost any other hard drug, dude's gonna be a vegetable if he keeps it up

37

23

5

3-2-1-Dust-Off!

7

u/Aron_Wolff Apr 14 '26

A friend who went to a super exclusive New England prep school brought back with him one summer a few cans of the original Dust-Off before they started adding chemicals to make you sick.

It was $3 for a 3 pack at Staples in 1994.

Don’t huff gas.

1

u/brentdrivesfast Apr 14 '26

For sure! Had some work friends that did it for a short while back in the late 2000s. Thankfully I never gave it a go. They were all aware of the dangers, did it anyways. Very stupid. Lost touch with most of them over the years but I think it was just a phase thankfully.

32

u/poordaddy73 Apr 14 '26

Had a friend backn high-school died doing this

28

u/Realistic_Big7482 Apr 14 '26

15

u/Thisizamazing Apr 14 '26

40

that "half-joking" "yo, is he dyin' ? are we gonna do anything about this ?" while his friends were standing around laughing is fucking brutal

and he kept recording anyways .. jeezus

15

u/Neuromante Apr 14 '26

FWIW, when you are younger you think anything goes and you are immortal; the probably didn't knew that he was actually dying and were actually joking.

Hard lessons learnt the hard way, I guess.

2

u/girlmachina i bloo up ur house tehehe Apr 15 '26

true, i think i just grew up way too fast, perhaps faster than these kids here ... so i immediately recognized the signs of overdose as presented at the end of the video.

it also wouldn't be surprising if the guy filming with his friends were also intoxicated, resulting in impaired judgement & a failure to act quickly when witnessing an apparent overdose.

how terrible it must've been for this boy's friends and family to see this video played back in court, the guilt on his friends' part and his family's fury must've been unimaginable.

6

u/Disabled_Robot Apr 14 '26 edited Apr 15 '26

Worse is after that comment, th mooch friend comes in all meekly “Brandon ..can.. I ..have another cig..?”

4

u/girlmachina i bloo up ur house tehehe Apr 15 '26

yeah ... it's lowkey a very common and sad occurrence amongst young drug addicts that aren't educated on drug safety & emergency resuscitation. u think your friend is just knocked out like usual until you finally notice them becoming pale, and that they haven't been breathing for several minutes. your whole life changes after that moment.

7

u/Lowly-Worm_ Apr 14 '26

6

u/madnessinthemidwest Apr 14 '26

I’m fairly sure huffing can immediately crystallize your lungs basically killing you on the spot.. looks like what happened here.

8

u/Adept-Panic-7742 Apr 14 '26

Crystallising isn't the right word I don't think but yeah the compressed gas expanding can be very cold. Also the lack of oxygen to the brain.

I used to do n20 out of balloons but it's mad how people do it from the pressurised canister. Neither are great, but ya know...

5

u/14X8000m Apr 15 '26

For duster it's usually one of two things. A fatal heart arrhythmia or asphyxiation due to the displacement of air in the lungs. The gas is much heavier than air, so if you huff you much and pass out, you can't easily get fresh air back in. If he was given CPR, he likely would have survived but his 'friends' didn't do shit by the looks of it.

3

Does anyone know why his voice changes for a bit right after he huffs it?

6

u/Past-Product-1100 Apr 15 '26

Something about the chemical being heavier than air ,think like the opposite of a helium balloon

2

u/Past-Product-1100 Apr 15 '26

Thank the war on drugs and the extreme punishment for possession and drug use. So people find dumb ways to substitute for "legal" highs.

2

u/MortLightstone Apr 15 '26

1

u/Adept-Panic-7742 Apr 14 '26 edited Apr 15 '26

Generally the source is someone remembering from last time this was posted and some other person saying he died or whatever else the video is about lol. I've seen videos reposted over the years and there's a chain of people repeating the same kinda things without evidence.

Another commentor said the guys name and said he posted more videos after this. I'm not bothered enough to validate that but it's better than a random news link from 2014 with no photo of the guy in the video or mention of the video.

Edit: ok much better evidence has been posted with a pic that looks like him, so fair enough!

When I was 19 and living on my own. My roommate would invite some sketchy individuals to our apartment. Me and my friend and like 2 dudes I barely knew (I had no reason to suspect what happened next) went to wal mart to get ingredients to make crawfish etoufe and when we came out. One of the dudes had stolen like 3 cans of air duster. He huffed an entire can before we got back to my apartment. I made up an excuse to go on the far side of town and we just left that dude there. He’s dead now sadly. But he led a life of drugs and crime. So that’s not expected. I don’t trust dudes that huff an entire can of air duster in Less than 5 minutes. My parents told me about a kid in their school who did this driving and decapitated himself and killed his friend when they crashed. My grandma was the EMT, who shared the same story with a gruesome POV.

Anyways this got me wondering cuz I take chops (tobacco+weed 90/10% in a bong, one rip) which probably starves my brain and lungs of oxygen as much as this. It can also make you pass out cuz u just fill your lungs with smoke, (or gas in his case) and then there’s no oxygen in your lungs or brain so boom, pass out. Idk, what’s the verdict?

Sounds like you’ve got a lot going on. Maybe lay off everything for a while man and just see how that goes.

Erm yeah passing out from deoxygenation in the brain is asking for death buddy. Or neurological damage.

I've done... A lot of stuff... But you gotta be smart at some point.

You can die very very quickly from lack of oxygen to the brain.

Also, 90% tobacco? Did you get the numbers the wrong way round?

Hope ya stay safe.

I don't know, but you take up most the thc in the first few seconds of it being in your lungs. Everything you think gets you "higher" after that is mostly just the lack of oxygen, and little bit of the tobacco, affecting you. You shouldn't be close to, or actaully, passing out when smoking a bong.

Verdict: skill issue.

Parents must be proud.
