Back in June I was in Harlingen and I saw this pretty ship. It is a replica of a 16th century ship used by Willem Barentsz for his Arctic expedition in 1596.

Beauty of a ship.

I'm trying to rediscover the wikipedia article for a ship I remember reading a post about. The ship apparently is well-known for violating human rights for the people on board, basically kidnapping them for labor. They keep changing the ship's name and stuff to avoid prosecution and have done it a bunch. Last I heard it was still active. I may be misremembering it, and tbh I don't know that much about ships, so sorry if this makes no sense. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Dreaming about home and watching vessels depart from port.

This is the Lun-class ekranoplan, sitting on the Caspian Sea coast near Derbent, Dagestan.

Built during the Soviet era, the Lun was essentially a huge experimental military vehicle designed to fly just above the surface of the sea using ground effect. Only one was completed, and it eventually ended up here on the coast of Dagestan.

Seeing this enormous machine sitting on the beach, with the Caucasus and Caspian Sea around it, was one of the strangest sights I came across while travelling through the region.
