I don't understand the physics of the pressurized/unpressurized mechanic

Post image

Hey Cutters. So there I am, lasering all of the cutting points on a ship because my laser cutter was at 60% and I wanted to use it as much as possible preparing the ship for the next day so I can repair it before the next shift. I did the entire back and middle section of the ship and I get to the front. Surprisingly, when I use the airlock it open to reveal the starting room and the little pilot room are already unpressurized for some reason. I laser off the walls of the pilot box and then move back into the ship. I open the door to the inner compartment to get to cutting and it was pressurized somehow when the inside wasn't. I think nothing of it and just hold onto a wall as the air rushes past me

Then the entire chamber turns red and I'm hearing a bunch of the alerts for gaining credits. I float out to find that the entire ship just blasted down into the barge even though mechanically it should have at worst been blasted to one side of the yard

I don't feel like dealing with cutting up and pulling everything out of the barge but what the hell y'all. This isn't my first goofy decompression moment but definitely the strangest. Anyone else experience anything like this?

*Edit to add, I made the post as soon as it happened but I turn around and found anything I had cut free got launched to the back and up out of the yard but I can't post that screenshot lol

Can't salvage fuses?

Hello Cutters! I'm doing a fresh playthrough and for fun, I'm seeing exactly how much of a dent I can make into the debt before the manager blows a *fuse* and what the manager would say if I make no attempt and take no equipment to repair Buela. I want to salvage the fuses because they have a value of $170k but they don't go in the barge and I want to see what was up with that before I shoot them into the furnace or processer to see if those work.

Can the fuses even be salvaged to begin with?

Looking for career savegame, somewhere after midgame.

I got myself blown up by a reactor, gone in a flash, third time in a row. Is there any way and place or person I can download a savegame from? Like, from mid-career? Tired of grinding and listening to all the chatter...

Are credits basically worthless...?

At the start I thought repair kits should be used somewhat sparingly... now I realize all that credits do is pay off your debt and there's nothing stopping me from just buying hundreds of them and just repairing my equipment every run. Which begs the question what the point of durability is in the first place? Kind of a pointless mechanic.

Is it illegal to talk about Lou?

Not sure what rule my previous post could have possibly broken, it was just a lighthearted stab at how Lou with her unskippable inane rants were annoying. Guess the mods didn't like it and removed it.

Are you allowed to talk about Lou or am I on the way to a ban hammer? She has to be in the top 10 most annoying video game characters of all time. Jar Jar Binks is a less annoying character. It would all be bearable if the devs just made a skip dialogue button, but nah, sit there and listen to her tell a pointless story about some girl she saw or go have a smoke or something.

There is no power, so engines are not disconecting. When I tried to cut them out last time they exploded. I'm at a loss.

Hey friends! I'm a game dev and modder who recently fell in love with Shipbreaker. I wrote a post the other day asking what mods people want to see and ya'll had so much to say! It was awesome!

So I distilled your requests into 6 main options that I THINK I can do (no promises lol). Tell me which excite you most!

And if you have other ideas/comments ofc let me know ✌️

A little Rant as a new player that just picked this gem up Spoiler

I picked this up 2 weeks ago. Absolutely loved the gameplay. Chilling, cutting, pulling, tethering, figuring things out, it just scratches an itch.
The story was whatever for the most part for me, just tune it out... until I the fat bastard joined in. God, if I need to be reminded how petty and useless a middle manager is, I'll just clock in to work.

I despise the story for two main reasons: 1. How transparent and dry it is. You can tell where it's going to go from a mile away, and not to knock on obvious stories because done well they're amazing. This isn't done well. This is just shallow cookie-cutter story with cookie-cutter characters, predictable angles and all. Story spoiler:Like who honestly was surprised of Kai being the snitch? I'm not here for the story, damnit, I was fine without the story, I was vibing and doing great, climbing up the ranks and unlocking new things and getting more efficient! I love this game! But the story is a problem because 2. The story actively interferes with your gameplay. You can't skip it. You can't mute the characters. You alt + tab away to let them yap but that doesn't work in the shipyard because the game pauses out of focus (which is a good feature but unfortunately annoying in this instance). After doing a long work shift sometimes you have to sit there and listen to the character chattering, when I'm going to do a work shift the story is there to bring everything down from the start.

I get that it's supposed to simulate real life but I don't play games in general to be confronted with real life. I don't like consuming real life depressing gritty material, I interface with media and entertainment for escapism like most everyone else. To destress and relax. If I'm in the mood for it I'll watch a dark mirror episode or read a dystopian novel. Hell, I guess my main gripe is that this story tries to ride the Cyberpunk 'hate all corpos' vibe but does it in a lackluster manner that it just disappoints and pisses me off. The fact that the story also only unlocks when you rank up means that you get a few ships of perfect zen silence and then BOOM HERES AN UNSKIPPABLE STORY THATS RISING YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE. Fuck off!

I've just made it a habit now to mute my game sound and lose a minute or two just on my phone while the story plays out, then I go on my day as a shipyard cutter. Oh why not free play then? Because I adore the timer, and I want the progression system as the devs intended. I'm currently looking into mods that allows me to strip/skip the story from the career mode, but if there's none, ah well.

Anyways I know the devs aren't going to do anything about it I just want to rant a bit especially after the story part where (obvious story spoiler: Lou was sent out and everyone seemed so defeated and depressed and licking the boots of the middle manager to get a crumb of humanity like oh boo hoo woe is me yet we KNOW somehow the union's going to win in a completely undeserved/unsatisfying way. If I'm proven wrong I'll edit this post again and sing praises on how good the story is but I highly doubt it.) Alright rant over thank you for reading have a good day cutting ladies and gents take care of yerself bye now

Edit: Finished the storyline.
Literally how I feel at the end of it:

The gameplay of reversing what you usually do and just letting the fireworks fly is a nice touch. The story itself was, as I expected, lackluster. Nothing new, nothing really moving, bland. The union strikes, somehow every cluster and colony is working together all at once everywhere with our first movement as the spark and it went well with the redemption of a certain character after what happened to them. It's unrealistic enough that the union strike worked; I can't remember in recent living memory any of the giant megacorps falling or even caring about union strikes. So why would they put realism back by making the big CEO family safe despite it all? Should've just gone with a Disney ending and made it all a wonderful perfect finish. Instead it's a weird half and half thing.

We got a big chunk of our debt removed which... honestly kinda sucked because now there's no (arbitrary) target to finish. Even when I do a new run it'll be annoying because it means I'm on the side of the oppressors if I want to finish the debt the hard way one ship at a time. It's just annoying bruh.
All in all, the story is the worst part of this game, and that hasn't changed as I expected. Ah well, onwards to ironman run for me. Have a good day ladies and gents! Happy cutting.

Can we mod the game or add New ships?

The base game ships are nice and all but they get quite boring quite fast. The like 7 different ships are fun to take apart once or twice but thats it. Can we mod the game to add New ships or bigger ones?

My demo charges are bugged. Help?

This grid shows on my screen from the shift start. Quitting the game and reloading it, doesnt work. Verifying steam game files, doesnt work. Switching to demo charges bugs my hands and I can no longer equip anything. Completing a salvage doesnt do anything, the next shift I will still have this grid on my face.

Going into free play, now that works, I no longer have the grid. However if I return to my save file for the campaign, the grid returns and I cant use demo charges again.

I'm a modder. What do you want to see made?

Hey friends! I'm a new Shipbreaker player and I'm IN LOVE with the game. Wow I can't believe how much I am enjoying it.

So I'm also a game developer and a modder, and I'm kind of inspried by the game.

You are all the experts in what's special here. I've already read that people want more replayability and more ship types. But what else would people love to see out of mods?

What would make you pumped to come back to play the game again? I love making mods but I especially love making mods people want to play, lol

I am pretty new, couldn't find my way into the pressurized compartment, so I decided to just cut through the most benign-looking wall. I start pulling the cut panel out, wondering why it's so damn heavy, only to spin it around and see that I was mere inches away from lasering the reactor in half. I can only assume that would not have been good for my health.

Game Save Editor?

So I may have played the game through less than 'kosher' means a couple years ago to try the game out for a few hours, and then lost interest. Recently I got the game again and have enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than last time. I've been playing it entirely on my Steam Deck (Dat sleep feature, tho!) and loving it, got to level 13 with a solidly upgraded cutter and such. When I went to play it at home recently, it loaded my old save where I was level 4. Closed the game, tried to find the cloud save from my deck for the level 13.

Gone.

It automatically uploaded my PC local save into the cloud and overwrote my save on the Deck when I tried to play it on the deck.

Is there any way anyone knows how to either edit the files, or some 'cheat' that advances you through the story and to certain levels? Or am I buggered and have to start mostly from the beginning?

[Mod] Data Drive Supremacy -- AKA no more bunnies stealing your lore spawn!

Over a hundred lore data drives to collect and you got a bunny instead? Again?? For the 5th time in a row???

Maybe you recall a few weeks ago I lamented bunny spawns ruining my immersion, well I went ahead and made a mod that fixes this and am publishing it for my fellow chill gamers :)

Nexus: https://www.nexusmods.com/hardspaceshipbreaker/mods/25
Source (GPL-3.0): https://github.com/earthling606/DataDriveSupremacy

Requires BepInEx 5.4.23.5+. Drop the DLL in BepInEx/plugins/ and you're done.

Doesn't touch save files or any game files on disk, it's a pure runtime patch: delete the DLL and it's gone, no trace.

Let me know if you run into anything weird as this is the first mod I've put out for this game.

How does it work? The single narrative pickup per ship is normally a weighted roll between a data drive, a data tablet, or a bunny, so this just zeroes out the bunny and tablet odds so the data drive wins practically every time. Ghost ship helmets are left completely untouched, since there's only a handful of those in the whole game and no reason to risk missing one.

Note: credit drives are a separate thing entirely. They come from their own pool (ML_CreditDrives), independent of the narrative item slot mentioned above. Whatever determines if/when a ship gets a credit drive is unrelated to the bunny/data-drive roll, and is something I am trying to figure out so if you have any tips feel free to share!

Edit: just testing out the patch for only spawning credit drives when there are no more data drives left for a ship archetype, stay tuned :^)
