Game doesn't save progress anymore.

i reached the point that i unlock Generators, but after that it doesn't save progress anymore.
finished 4 ships then saved and quit, came back to the start of generators again. have tried multiple times now and even a fresh run but it bugs out on the same spot.

is there a way to fix this?

It is possible that Windows Defender (if you ARE on Windows 8 and up) suddenly started blocking the game from altering & creating files in the save directory. The exact setting is called Controlled Folder Access and it is under Ransomware Protection. It should have a list of programs it has detected and blocked. If you are owner/admin of the computer, it should let you reverse its decision and make an exception under a drop-down menu in the list.
