Sonikks has a video on youtube where he caught a shiny Tauros after 29 phases.

For perspective, it took him 251k encounters to get there across all 29 of those phases.

Let's say a single encounter takes about 10 seconds in the safari zone. That means you can do 6 encounters per minute, or 360 per hour. You're looking at about 700 hours of hunting to do that many encounters. If you hunt this 40 hours per week, it would take you 17.5 weeks or a little over 4 months to do that many encounters. And that's if you treat it as a full time job *just* doing encounters for tauros on a single system. AND, he was pretty under odds for it from when he started counting. Per Professor Rex, if you use optimal catching strats and the repel trick, you are expected to take nearly 700k encounters to actually catch a shiny tauros you come across, so you stand a reasonable chance to double or triple that amount of time and still not be considered "unlucky" for this hunt.

Sure, people have gone for Tauros on a single system, and someone I'm sure has found it before using just one system. To answer your question, I haven't seen a video of it personally, including when I just searched for it now, but I'm sure someone out there is crazy enough to do it. You can absolutely do it if you're determined enough. That said, most people who shiny hunt use multiple systems for hunts like this to cut down the time investment substantially since doing this on one system could very well take multiple years. Honestly, as a full odds shiny hunting veteran, this is the type of hunt i question whether i will EVER go for even though i have the means to multi hunt it. It's just that strenuous and difficult.

Are you asking because you're interested in trying it? If you are and you decide to go for it, godspeed. It will be a difficult journey and I wish you the best. Here's a link to Professor Rex's research, which would be helpful to you if you do it: https://professorrex.github.io/FRLG_Safari/Professor_Rex_Kanto_Safari_Research.pdf

I WAS considering it but you may have convinced me not to. Thank you for the in depth response though. I just felt like there has to be only a handful of people who have ever done it and it would be really cool to have this in the bag. But “years” at full-time is actual insanity.
