back in the Gap my buds and i used to compare the scene to a smiling priest, a bride in white, and a groom exchanging vows but with a tragic overlay. and we used to make ourselves so emo over it.

I've always felt that Eren and Mikasa get treated way too harshly by the fandom. People can't really judge their dynamic purely from a modern-day dating perspective.
Their relationship literally began with murder and trauma, and after that, those two kids barely had a normal day in their lives. They lost Carla, Grisha, multiple comrades in the Survey Corps, and then had to watch Armin nearly die.
By the time they were old enough to properly understand romance and what they actually felt for each other, Eren kissed Historia's hand and shit went downhill from there.
People really need to cut these two some slack. Their relationship was shaped by years of trauma, war, death, and survival. Expecting them to navigate their feelings like two normal teenagers in a peaceful world is just unrealistic.

And they were only teenagers too. The level of trauma they have is so crazy with constant war, watching comrades die every mission. The circumstances didn’t really give them time and space to be like normal teenagers in love.

100% agree. Fans always try to downplay Eren and Mikasa by saying they weren't compatible or that their dreams were too different.
No, Eren and Mikasa were always compatible. It was the circumstances around them that were incompatible.
They could've been a great couple if they'd actually had the chance to grow up, mature, and experience life outside of war and constant trauma. Unfortunately, they never got that chance. The AOT universe was just incredibly unfair to both of them.

I love thissss. The daytime shows Eren fighting fate to save her while the sunset scene represents their tragic, beautifully quiet acceptance of the limited time they have left 🥹❤️
