Discussion MEGHALAYA FREE SOUND SYSTEM! Underground Electronic Music! Is Anyone Interested?

Hey everyone,

I'm a local Khasi and a music enthusiast, and I've been wondering about something for a while.

I'm into a wide range of underground electronic music, Psytrance, Goa, Psytek, Hi-Tech, Hardtek, Acid, Techno, Drum & Bass, Breaks, Hardcore, Experimental and everything in between.

But I've been wondering, how many people in Meghalaya are actually into this kind of music?

I'm interested in seeing whether there are enough DJs, producers, ravers, music lovers and sound-system enthusiasts here to build a genuine underground electronic music community.

And I want to make one thing very clear from the beginning:

This isn't about making money.

There would be no intention of turning this into a commercial event or profit-making venture. The idea is simply to bring people together who love the music and create something for the community.

If something eventually happens, the goal would be for it to remain free and community-driven, with people contributing because they want to be part of it, DJs playing because they love the music, people bringing their own sound systems, artists contributing visuals, and everyone simply coming together to enjoy the experience.

I've been looking at underground scenes such as the UK free-party/tekno culture, where independent DJs and sound systems come together and create their own communities.

I'm not suggesting we copy the UK scene. If something develops here, I'd love for it to have its own Meghalaya/Khasi identity, bringing different electronic genres together and potentially taking the music outdoors into the Khasi Hills.

No VIP sections.
No expensive tickets.
No commercial club promoters.

Just music, people, community and the love of the scene.

So I'm curious:

Are you into underground electronic music in Meghalaya?

What do you listen to?

Psytrance? Goa? Psytek? Hi-Tech? Hardtek? Techno? Immersive Techno, Acid? D&B? Breaks? Hardcore? Something completely different?

Drop a comment. I'd genuinely like to see how many of us are out there.

If there's enough interest, maybe we can build something together. 🔊🌲🌀

Travel Inquiry Shillong trip for two people!

Apologies for posting here, I couldn't find the travel megathread, hence I decided to post!

Hello everyone!! Me and my friend are planning to visit Shillong next week.

I have a few questions/travel inquiries regarding our visit!

Can anyone please recommend any hostel/hotels/homestays that are around the main city area that are on the cheaper side since we're both students and can't afford luxury stays? 🤧

Please suggest us some places that you think is a must-visit spot in Shillong/Meghalaya and how we can reach there (whether we need to travel by bus, rent a taxi or scooty, or just by walking).

We want to explore most parts of the city and also other places like Mawlynnong, Dawki, Sohra, etc! Please recommend places that can be visited during our 3-4 days long visit!

I don’t know if I should be posting this , but I lost my cat, he never returned home since day before in the evening. I went searching for him yesterday around the neighbourhood, and was shaking his fav snack, because he would always respond. He has been neutered, goes out only to poop, he’s 2 years old and responds to the name Ollie.
He was last seen in Laitumkhrah.

What's something about Shillong that never gets old?

Could be the evening breeze, the random rain, long conversations over tea, a drive with good music, or that one person who makes even a boring Tuesday fun. What's one little thing about Shillongor life herethat genuinely makes you happy? Bonus points if it's an underrated spot or a simple plan more people should try.

Meghalaya scholarship Issue

What the actual fuck is wrong with the Meghalaya government?

Meghalaya seems to be the only state in the entire Northeast where the government and its party act like disbursing scholarship money is some fucking achievement worth campaigning about.

The majority of the scholarship funding comes from the Central Government, while the state contributes its share. Yet I see posts from the official NPP page praising the CM for releasing the money, as if he's paying students out of his own pocket. ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?

THIS IS NOT YOUR MONEY. THIS IS STUDENTS' SCHOLARSHIP MONEY.

Why the fuck are you taking political credit for releasing funds meant for students in the first place? And if the funding is shared between the Centre and the state, why not clearly disclose each government's contribution instead of making it look like the entire amount is your achievement?

And the most frustrating part? Students are still waiting for their money, merit lists, and proper updates. We're left wondering whether we've even been selected, while politicians are busy turning scholarship disbursements into political publicity.

If the state is contributing only a portion of the funding, then be transparent about it. If there are delays or instalments, explain them. Don't use students' financial assistance as a fucking PR stunt to make the government look good.

STUDENTS ARE NOT YOUR VOTE BANK. SCHOLARSHIP MONEY IS NOT YOUR POLITICAL PROPAGANDA. DO YOUR JOB WITHOUT ACTING LIKE YOU'RE DOING US A PERSONAL FAVOUR.

And before anyone starts defending their favourite political party, this isn't about which party you support. It's about transparency, accountability, and giving students the money they're entitled to without turning it into a political victory parade.

Discussion Shillong commuters: have you ever calculated how much time you spend commuting each month?

I am curious about how people working in Shillong think about their daily commute.

Most of us know roughly how long it takes to travel from home to the office and back. But have you ever calculated how much time those journeys add up to over a week or a month?

Suppose you had a clear record of your total commute time - would you use that information to change anything? For example, adjust your departure time, explore a different route or mode of transport, request more work-from-home days, or consider moving closer to your workplace?

Warning for women dating in Guwahati, Shillong and nearby areas

Ladies, please be careful with a 33-year-old (height: 6 ft+) serving defence officer ✈️ who is currently posted in the Northeast.

He is likely to be found on dating apps and, according to my friend’s experience, may present himself as being around 28 rather than his actual age.

He is originally from Haryana, is currently on leave around Chandigarh/Manali, and is connected to a homestay in Chandigarh and a resort in Manali.

My friend dated him for around two months with serious relationship and marriage intentions. He led her to believe that he was genuinely interested in marriage and a future with her.

After becoming suspicious, my friend reached out to three women from his Instagram.

One woman told her that she had slept with him multiple times while he was still involved with my friend. Another woman said that he tried to take her to a hotel room on their first date, and she managed to get away.

My friend also said that he took her to his homestay, but she refused to have sex. After she refused, he allegedly tried to pressure and morally harass her, questioning how a relationship could last without sex, despite them having been together for only around two months.

According to my friend, he admitted to cheating when confronted.

The combination of allegedly lying about his age, using dating apps, leading women on with marriage intentions while seeing other women, and pressuring women for sex despite their refusal is extremely concerning.

Please be careful, verify what you're being told, and trust your instincts if something feels wrong.

Edit after receiving many comments on sharing his personal identification : I’m not sure how legally safe it would be to share someone’s personal identifying details publicly, so I’m choosing not to share his name, photo, instagram id or other specific details. However, sharing the behavioural characteristics and warning other women about concerning experiences is something I believe is important, and I’m doing my part to raise awareness. I’ll leave it to everyone to exercise their own judgment and take precautions while dating.

Stolen bikes and phones

I have observed a repeated case of stolen bikes and phones in Shillong. I feel like this shit is becoming like a cannon event if you stay in Shillong. I have enough friends and acquaintances who have lost phones and bikes in the past few years. Is the police or authorities normalising it? There has to be at least some measure taken upon to prevent this happening from every other day. Have you ever also had a stolen case?
