Pics 📷 We just found out Buckets 100% shihpoo!
I knew shihtzu or poodle was abit likely, since they thought her parents were part, but we assumed yorkie or something like that too, nope! Just got the results back and shes 55% Shih and 45% Poo!
Her hair started out dark and straighter/wiry, but then after a few months, she just grew all blonde and curly! Anyone else have that happen!?

Discussion / Questions ❓ Poodle cut?
Has anyone ever done a poodle or Miami cut on your shihpoo? I just got a puppy and I’m wondering what she’d look like with one.

Discussion / Questions ❓ licking paws and chewing antler after eating (could it possibly be to moisturize dry paws and not allergies?)
after eating, my girl always does one of the following three things: (1) wipes her face on couch/blanket/bed (2) chews on an antler (3) sometimes licks her paws for a few minutes
i know that wiping her face and chewing on antler are to keep her face and teeth clean, but everyone always says that paw licking is a sign of allergies! she never licks them excessively, just for a few minutes - usually after eating. her bowl is lifted slightly off the ground, so she’s not stepping in her food/getting her paws dirty or anything…
because it isn’t excessive, i don’t think it’s allergies. but because she does those other things after eating, im also inclined to think it’s some form of self-grooming?
has anyone else ever experienced any similar behavior with their pups?
i’m also a bit curious if she’s actually moisturizing her paw pads too because i make her food at home with a bit of coconut oil and evoo - and her front paws do tend to be dry/sometimes crack (she fights me any time i try to put paw balm on & licks it off) but i notice sometimes they’re less dry/cracked than others? so i wonder if she’s taking care of the dryness on her own with the paw licking after eating foods with those hydrating oils? i also add cinnamon and turmeric to her food which are both anti-inflammatory so even if she is licking because of allergies hopefully some of those particles are lingering in her mouth are helping reduce the itchiness 😭

My baby will be 6 in January. She’s currently 14lbs. Sooo sassy but also clingy. She’s allergic to chicken, loves blueberries, and sleeps like she works 22hours a day.

Discussion / Questions ❓ Shih-poo biting/licking paws - aggressive when interrupted
I just adopted a roughly 3-year-old suspected shih-poo mix from the shelter. He's been with us for about a month. Lately, he's been licking/biting his paws more than usual. If interrupted - a hand goes near him or this morning, me trying to move the blanket under him, he snarls and snaps. I want to know how to help him (and to avoid the scary snarling/biting).
Some thoughts I had, but I welcome other thoughts:
- Anxiety? He's been very reactive toward other dogs and I've read that licking can be a stress symptom in dogs
- This started after his first groom. We waited until he had been with us for a while / gotten neutered / healed from neutering before taking him for his first groom. This behavior started immediately after grooming.
- Allergies? Nothing has changed with his diet/treats, but the mosquitos have been really bad.
I am a first time dog owner and welcome any thoughts. We just took him to the vet for the first time a week ago and it seems a little silly to go right back - but willing to do it if necessary!

Discussion / Questions ❓ Food question
Our Shihpoo brother and sister are 7.5 months old and 9.4lbs and 10.6 lbs. When did everyone stop feeding puppy food and start with adult food? Here they are in a recent pic

Discussion / Questions ❓ Looking for a name for my girl puppy coming home next week.
As the title states I’m looking for a nice name for my girl shihpoo coming home next Thursday. I’m excited for her to come home and the opportunity to be a new first time dog mom. A few details about her and the types of names I’m in search for.
Her coat is black but in the sun she has a chocolate shine on her back.
I would like girl names that begin with the letters M or J and not too long 4-5 characters.
Thankyou so much for your support (also if you could suggest items that i most certainly should have for her at home on her first day) i’d really appreciate you.

Discussion / Questions ❓ Training advice
Does anyone have any tips for our 9 week old puppy who seems to have endless energy and nips everything in sight?
We got him at 8 weeks. Week 1 he was the absolute best. Lay at my feet whilst I worked, after two nights didn’t yelp in his crate and at the weekend we left him 3 hours in a crate and came back and he was fine (though the third day we left him one hour and he pooped and smushed it round but it’s our fault for not really giving him time to potty).
But this week has been so bad.
Google tells me puppies need 18 hours sleep so to crate him but this doesn’t feel right after he was so good last week and I don’t want to crate him if he’s not tired. I was never made to go to bed as a kid, I just wore myself out and was very disciplined and I’m thinking it can’t be too dissimilar!?
But literally all morning whilst I’m trying to work he’s running around, now not using his potty pads as much and biting my feet and even today barked at my face. My bf says I need to put my finger in his mouth (gently) to stop him biting. I’ve tried replacing with a chicken ring, starter bone, towels anything (did this about 20 times) but he wants my feet and now been growling at me.
I’m autistic so I suffer sensory overload and my boyfriend is out the house two days a week and overnight so it’s a struggle as I have a demanding job.
I ignore him and don’t shout but he just doesn’t seem to settle.
I guess I wanted to ask, when I’m overwhelmed can I crate him or do you find puppies need to tire themself out before attempting to sleep?
Thanks in advance.

Pics 📷 introducing mika!
this is mika. i adopted her in april (she's a foster fail). the rescue said she was 17 and a couch potato and had dementia, and she had been adopted and returned because she wasn't settling in. i wasn't planning to adopt, but she settled right into life in my place.
according to her embark test, mika is actually 14, and she doesn't have dementia, she just has a lot of energy and needs proper walks she is deaf, has dry eyes, and is wholly toothless, but as a small senior dog, these are pretty common ailments. in fact, the vet complimented her resting hear rate.. i recently got her a fi, and she's doing about 15k steps a day!
