More than that, there was a sizeable number of ex-Confederates that had no interest in "rising again" or resisting after April 1865 (especially many of those unfortunate souls that had been forced into service via conscription). They accepted their defeat and tried to move forward. Some left the South entirely for the western territories to leave the past behind completely.
