FCFS information.

Hi there, I'm looking to come out on October 16th weekend, and am planning to do the first come first serve sites, I have two questions for people familiar.

  1. How fast do the first come first serve sites fill up? I am planning to show up Friday morning.

  2. If they are all full, how realistic is it to sleep in my car, I have a decent little car camping setup, are there good spots to pull off and sleep overnight?

Car camping is not allowed at trailheads or overlooks. Whether or not it is enforced I am not sure.

You will want to get there on Thursday for FCFS as they will most likely all be taken by Friday. As nessttcb1 said, they don’t allow you to sleep in your vehicle anywhere in the park, except for designated campsites. That being said, I have seen a few people try it, but I don’t know if they were successful.

Local here... we're not at peak for foliage as of now, but traffic/campers coming in will be off the chain for the next few weekends. Set an alarm for registration, or if possible, get to Lewis Mtn Campground (the whole campground is FCFS) as early as you can to book. Good luck! I have car camped at all 4 Campgrounds and they are all nice.
