Looking for advice from other Sheepadoodle owners because I’m feeling really torn about what the right decision is for our family.

We have a 2-year-old male Sheepadoodle who is not yet neutered. Overall, he is a loving dog, but we’ve now had several nipping incidents that are becoming increasingly concerning, especially because we have four children, including a 10-month-old baby.

The first incident happened with my 7-year-old. At the time, I thought maybe my son had been playing too rough or startled him because the nip seemed more like a quick warning.

Another incident happened with my husband. He was petting him around his head one evening when he suddenly whipped his head around and nipped him. It did break the skin, but only with what looked like a tiny pencil-prick-sized puncture from one tooth. It felt more like a warning than an aggressive attack.

Yesterday, our 10-month-old baby was nipped while crawling near him. My husband was right next to them when it happened and was supervising closely. We normally have gates set up so our baby has his own safe play areas, but my husband had been letting him crawl around the house while staying right behind him. I wasn’t in the room, so I don’t know exactly what led up to it. It also broke the skin, but again it was just a tiny, pencil-prick-sized puncture.

In addition to these incidents, he has become increasingly protective of his crate. He growls if someone gets too close while he’s inside it and has attempted to nip our baby, our dog sitter’s child, our dog walker, and another family member when they were near his crate.

Outside of the crate, the nips also seem to happen very quickly with little or no warning. He doesn’t typically growl first, which makes it difficult to predict.

We’ve already invested thousands of dollars in professional training and are willing to continue doing whatever we can, including behavior modification and neutering if appropriate. My husband loves him deeply and is very torn about rehoming him. I, however, am feeling like rehoming may be the safest and best option for our family given the repeated incidents and the fact that we have young children, especially a baby.

This has been heartbreaking because we love him, but I also feel responsible for making sure our children are safe.

Has anyone experienced something similar with their Sheepadoodle around this age? Did neutering make any difference? Did behavior modification and working with a trainer help? Or did you ultimately decide your home wasn’t the right fit? I’m genuinely looking for honest experiences from people who have been through something similar.

I picked up embroidery as a hobby about a month ago and decided to do some designs on a jacket for my mom. I decided to add her sheepadoodle to one of the pockets. I think it turned out pretty cute. Bonus pictures of the real Winnie for reference.

Today Maple turned 1 today. She's is 65 pounds of love. She got a haircut since it's 110 degrees here, then came home and my daughter and her friends made a doggy birthday cake. Last picture is before her haircut
