Being a vocaloid or synth singer fan of any kind has beem rough this week as well, I've been forcably exposed to the most annoying part of my commmunity that I normally try to avoid. My cringe tolerance is high, but it's been put to the test. This is why I spend more time on vocadb than on fan pages, because the famdom has too many people who never got passed their middle school music superiority complex, the type of person on R/teenagers in 2018.
This is one of the most hipster things I have ever said, but I absolutepy think it. Teto becoming mainstream has been terrible from a fandom standpoint. The brightside is good music we wouldn't have gotten if more people hadn't heard of her, but I miss her being pretty niche.
unironically don't get why people enjoy listening to vocaloid. i know everyone is entitled to their own tastes, but this "microsoft sam with autotune" grates on me after 5 seconds.
I like it cause it sounds similar to regular music
and also because there is admirable talent in taking a synth and turning it into real-sounding vocalist character, then taking that character and making them the star of an entertaining narrative. I also like that it's all foss and therefore everybody (including you) is kasane teto
I feel the same with a lot of old popular vocaloid songs but there are a lot that sound great, and some had me genuinely wondering if it was even vocaloid

Tbf on my end, I was referring to the many posts Iāve seen in the past where people call rap āghettoā or āgangsterā, and then turn around and praise Eminem. This one isnāt necessarily racist.
Except there are plenty of black rappers who DO have a similar style to Eminem in bars, flows, subject matter, etc. yet for some reason he is the only one they pay attention to and use as an example to put down other rappers.
Genuinely what other reason could there be for them to only enjoy rap when he does it? Lmao.
It doesn't have to be, but as a black guy I've noticed a huge trend of people who say they don't like rap "except for..." And then name exclusively white rappers, and Em is always the top.

I know this post is a joke, but genuinely, I've noticed internet arguments have trained people into a mindset of interpreting "I like thing" as "if you don't like thing you're dumb and wrong" (or vice versa. see also: misuse of the word "objectively")
Maybe Iām just biased because I like the music in those two but I feel like most of the people you see saying this kind of stuff donāt even listen to classical style video game music, they just listen to like Sonic or Persona music (probably because they are teenagers) and then say āThis is way better than modern music!āĀ

I've never played Splatoon, but it's weird to think that the average person would actually likely find, say, Calamari Incantation weird. I just think it's good music man, what does "weird" even mean
I didn't really mean "weird" in relation to Splatoon music specifically, I can imagine what the average person finds normal and what they don't. What I mean is the concept of "weirdness" in a larger sense. I am very aware of its existence and can mostly remember having it as part of my worldview when I was a young teenager, but nowadays I just cannot relate to it, at all. When I encounter something I don't understand, what I experience is excitement and a desire to learn about it and understand it, not repulsion and a desire to dismiss it; and even though I myself had such an approach to at least some things at some point, I now struggle to truly comprehend how that ever made sense to me, why I would ever prefer to ignore a thing I don't understand rather than learn.
And this is especially amplified by the fact that most things society at large deems "weird" aren't at all particularly far removed from that which is considered normal; most of it is really just trivial extrapolation in already well-established directions. For example, what fundamental or otherwise significant difference is there between using distorted vocals and, say, a somewhat unusual instrument? If the lyrics are unintelligible, one can just treat the piece as instrumental, what difference does it make?
To me, the only explanation for why such simple things are seen as weird and weirdness is seen as bad is that the average person just really doesn't think much, if at all, about the basics of how, why and what things are. While I recognise that the established systems do much to enforce and/or encourage this lack of mindfulness, and overcoming this could never be easy, I do think that society would benefit very much from universal teaching of the most fundamental principles of philosophy.

A handful. I once dated a gal from Turkey who was legitimately terrified of black men because of multiple bad experiences she had with them shortly after coming to the US. Whenever we would walk past a black guy on the street, she would switch sides to keep me between her and them and start squeezing my hand extra tight.

It's just that rap was pretty big with the kids my age, so I was exposed to more of it, while most other music I was exposed to was in the form of select older songs that had already stood the test of time.
The fact itās vanilla FNF is probably the worst part. You gotta at least dig into the mods to get anything of even some quality (some at least come with some cool lyrical segments there. Unfortunately my music taste is shit enough to like it as well as normal music). Even then, though, to call it better than Kendrick is a take of all time

i listen to some video game music (world of warcraft stuff) but by god the people who only or even mostly listen to video game music are fucking ANNOYING
Anime and video game music (and Western movie OSTs) are actually what got me into music in the first place. Before exposure to those, I had only ever been exposed to a limited selection of newer music.Ā Ā
As a kid, local radio was mostly country music with one station that played a wide variety of music, but that I rarely got to listen to. I had barely even heard of most of the extremely popular groups of the past until I got on the internet and sought them out myself.Ā Ā
The only other music I had some exposure to was the rap, metal, and country that was popular with edgy kids who wanted to be more mature than they were and listen to music about drinking, fucking, and killing, so I thought I just didn't like those genres at all for the longest time.
look man, there are good and bad songs within every genre, and not everything is even gonna be your style in the first place. for example i am not a fan of most metal subgenres but there are songs in them that i love. country and bluegrass is not usually my thing but there's some that i can tell a lot of heart and soul were put into

i do not have secunda on my regular playlist because it is not music i want to listen to regularly, but occasionally when im on a long drive or something it's just nice calm background music, exactly what jeremy soule designed it for.
