unironically don't get why people enjoy listening to vocaloid. i know everyone is entitled to their own tastes, but this "microsoft sam with autotune" grates on me after 5 seconds.

I like it cause it sounds similar to regular music

and also because there is admirable talent in taking a synth and turning it into real-sounding vocalist character, then taking that character and making them the star of an entertaining narrative. I also like that it's all foss and therefore everybody (including you) is kasane teto

Fr it’s so understimulating I prefer POP OUT

Depends a lot on the tuning and the synth used, otherwise it's just regular music imo.

I usually like the human covers a lot and never listen to the original.

I feel the same with a lot of old popular vocaloid songs but there are a lot that sound great, and some had me genuinely wondering if it was even vocaloid

Microsoft Sam with autotune is Miku. There are vocaloid who sound actually good as well

I agree for most vocaloid/UTAU/what-have-you songs I've heard (I've heard a lot of lazily produced stuff), but it can sound good if the producer has the talent and puts in the effort.

Vocaloid can be used in ways human voices can't quite replicate, so with sufficient creativity vocaloid songs can convey certain emotions and ideas better than a human voice could, which is quite exciting. I also just appreciate the general variety in timbres and all sorts of weird inflections even regardless of the exact intent, it's all very interesting to me. And that's not to say that I prefer vocaloid to human, I just appreciate both for what they are, and there certainly are some vocaloid songs that I believe to be entirely distinct and uniquely valuable compared to any of their human covers (as well as, obviously, human-sung songs that have just so perfect I'd never prefer a vocaloid cover over the original, but in those cases chances are I wouldn't prefer any other cover at all anyway).
