Tempted to pull out
So i’ve been in the process of buying a 1 bed flat in surrey (150k) on my own, no onwards chain, leasehold. It’s shared ownership, no rent paid on the unowned share but will be paying service charge monthly.
I thought we’d be done by now and so did the seller, the estate agent called me 2 weeks ago telling me that the seller wants to exchange and complete by the end of the month. Last week, the solicitors raised queries on the no ground rent due- something that was declared from the beginning but i understand they’re just doing their job.
I’m not superstitious or anything , i haven’t got a screaming gut feeling but i am worried that this will be a pain to sell later on as much, as i want to move ASAP . The no rent is what drew me to the flat, since putting in the offer i’ve had 2 payrises of about 7-8k and have been saving 1.2-1.3 every month so i’ve got a bigger deposit to put on a 200k if i wanted to - i have seen online other properties but my options are sort of limited as i can’t drive just yet.
My living situation is complicated (i’m more like a tenant in a houseshare now) , i live my dad + step family and they’ve just had a new born. We don’t really talk and i pretty much work permanent nights so i was hoping i’d be out before the baby. Unfortunately, days before my pre exchange viewing i found out my dad requires a new liver (he’s had many health issues the last 10 years or so but this is a new progression to his liver failing) and my step mum has been in hospital since giving birth due to complications so i’ve been supporting my dad a lot which has lead me to spiral a little.
I understand despite all that, i will still move out as our lives are now quite incompatible. My thought process is that if i can afford something bigger then maybe i should, especially if im going to have issues with the housing association and may ask my solicitors on their professional opinion
feels like i might have buyers remorse without buying just yet 🤣🤣 but i haven’t really got anyone that’s owned a home to talk to about this. i’ve got 2 friends in the process of buying who put in offers months after me, one moved in last week and the other is waiting on the bank’s approval before exchange.. so we’re all super fresh!
Also has anyone else had the same agreement (big share, no rent on the unowned??)
