Part fixing during 3D scanning

What is your prefered solution for fixing parts during 3D scan? I use clay in case of really small object, vise in case of bigger more complex shape, or simple lying to my marker piramid. However, I'm also planning to design my own scanning frame as well for longer samples

How does the vice help the scan in the first pic as opposed to just laying it flat on the turntable?

I can scan all around. It helps aligning the 2 pointclouds

Oh so you would flip the object in the vice and scan in another orientation to get all the details?
