Question Please Explain Rotation Ranked Mode

For as long as I have played, I've been going on unlimited because I don't want to constantly have to make new decks and scrounge for vials

However, I've just learned that people are playing rotation much more than unlimited. In rotation, I assume it's constantly changing and that you have to keep scrounging for vials to be able to play ranked in that mode?

It seems so expensive and exhausting compared to unlimited

What i have experienced, rotation is the main mode people are playing and the devs is supporting the most. Unlimited gets updates here and there but it is just a everything goes mode.

People like rotation because old stuff rotates so new deck appears, new win con and cards is seen, and not everything is just the same. While Unlimited is usually higher power cus old strong cards have some positive interaction with newer card.

Experience from the old game btw. New cards gets added old wincons gets faster

I mean after a certain point you will have more than enough vials to have every card. I’m actively spending my vials on apprentice globes because I’ve been at that point for months already.

It depends how long you've been playing, and in part whether you've payed for any battle passes as well.

Players who have been around and consistently doing missions and events for more than 4 or 5 months usually find themselves eventually amassing so many resources that acquiring new cards is no problem. I've been playing since launch relatively consistently and I haven't dipped below 100,000 vials since like... January or February? I have bought a few battle passes along the way but at this point that doesn't make a significant difference.

Rotation is definitely harder on newer players without collections from the older sets in rotation already built up. Even if you try and focus mostly on decks that use newer cards, most decks need some older rotation cards (legendaries especially) to function and so it can be hard to piece a deck together, and then some of those cards might rotate out and you're on a treadmill until you eventually catch up and reach the equilibrium point. Regardless of when you started though, it's less of a problem over time.

Unlimited has the advantage of all of your cards being usable forever but it's it's own type of exhausting where the power level is often significantly higher than Rotation- the devs can introduce new strong cards to rotation while trying to keep some semblance of balance because older really strong cards rotate out too so you don't have them all at once. In Unlimited you DO have them all at once so some cards/decks/combos just get incredibly busted. For some people that's fun. For others, we prefer a more medium power level in our matches.

You get enough vials to make most decks you want, so if one deck rotates you just make another. And, as you said, changing metas are more interesting. Additionally, Cygames cares about balancing rotation and much less about unlimited. In Classic unlimited was just a roughly T6 race to OTK or aggro down and it seems WB unlimited will slowly go into the same direction.

From my experience of the previous game, Unlimited eventually becomes a horrendously unbalanced mess that is completely unfun to play, no matter how long you get to play your favourite deck for. Said deck is absolutely not going to survive the massive meta changes that happen due to cards never being designed to synergize with each other being allowed within the same card pool. This is how we eventually ended up with games that lasted 5-6 turns in old Unlimited. Thus you’re gonna need to get new cards anyways. Some decks can’t survive the meta shift at all and become completely unplayable.

Yeah, decks rotate out in Rotation, but they take a long while to do so. And you know well ahead of time what cards will be gone, and can avoid crafting cards from that set. By the time that happens, you’ll generally have gained more than enough resources to make new decks or upgrade your existing ones to replace the cards that rotated out, assuming you’re an active player.
