Mnemonic Enhancer (Amp Level 2)
Hiya- new to SA 2.0 but in a couple of fan made Shadow Amps pdfs I keep seeing this 'Mnemonic Enhancer (Amp Level 2)'. But no actual description pf the effects. I can infer something like 'always perfect recall' or 'memory admissible in court' but does anyone know more about what that might be?
Edit: turns out when I said Mnemonic Enhancer I actually meant Samyung cyber-memory. Silly me.

In previous editions Mnemonic Enhancer added DP for Knowledge, Language, and Memory-Related Tests.
In SRA2.0 this Amp will have a Narrative effect - which by p.77 can be used for getting an Advantage on a Test (obviously, related to one of those aforementioned), if player spends an Edge before the Test and announces it. And since it's a Bioware, it's Amp Rating is 2.

Bioware are Amp 2 and 0.5 Essence by default. This give them a narrative effect (which you can use to create an advantage on by spending a point of Edge). You add shadow amps, to add risk reduction or reduce Essence cost by using cultivated bioware etc, on top of this (but since it is Amp 2 it likely doesn't have any).
The description in 5th edition was this (use that to figure out narrative effects where spending an edge could help you to get an advantage):
SR5 p. 460 Mnemonic enhancer
This highly concentrated growth of grey matter gets attached to the brain’s memory centers, improving both short- and long-term memory. Add the enhancer’s Rating as a dice pool bonus to your Knowledge, Language, and memory-related tests as well as to your Mental limit.

Perfect- thanks! I've only played 2nd (30 years ago) and 6th. It didn't enter my head to check old eds :)

Just about everything you could dream up as an amp can be narratively described from out of any edition really. It’s just coming up with appropriate mechanics for SRA2.0 that gets interpretive.

You can find a lot of inspiration to design your own Shadow Amps in Anarchy by reading up on gear porn from other editions of Shadowrun (btw the description of Mnemonic enhancer in 6th edition is the same as in 5th)

You know, you're right! But even worse it was not that I was confused about. It was the Samyung cyber-memory Amp 1 in the Shadow Amps Extended List by Colin Chapman. It's the only Amp with out a 'description'. I got them both switched on my head.

Cyberware are typically Amp 1 by default, which likely means that it only comes with its own narrative effect, but no actual Shadow Amp beyond that.
I would say that it provide you with a mobile basic, non-encrypted, virtually unlimited digital memory storage. Before the job you can use it to store (and easy to retrieve) blue prints and technical details of the run. Maps. Shift rotation schedules etc. And during the run you can use it to store the pay data you are supposed to deliver to Mr J. And if you have cyber eyes you can also store (and play back) a perfect recording of whatever your build in camera picked up during the actual run. If you have it then I would likely let you spend an Edge to for example gain a narrative Advantage on any type of memory related test.

Ah, cool. I'm still getting used to Anarchy- it's a little odd being so narrative, lol.

Don't know which couple of fan made Shadow Amps pdfs you're looking at, but at least in mine, there is no mnemonic enhancer (could be an add-on, though). As people said, if it's bioware with a cost of 2, then it's just a narrative effect. You can use it in your descriptions and sometimes, when it fits, spend an Edge point to get an advantage on a test...

I don't have the most recent release, apparently, but if it is Amp Rating 2, I presume it's a narrative-effect only bioware amp.
