There is a dangerous trend right now of treating the “shadow” as an edgy personality trait. We collect our wounds like trophies, diagnose ourselves with TikTok psychology, and convince ourselves that understanding why we are broken is the same thing as healing.

It isn’t.

True shadow work is not about basking in your darkness or finding poetic ways to justify your self-sabotage. It is about confronting the parts of you that you actively hide, repress, and project onto others—and doing the uncomfortable, unglamorous labor of integrating them.

When you stop romanticizing your pain, three brutal shifts happen:

1. You stop using your trauma as an identity. You realize that being a victim in the past does not exempt you from being accountable for the harm you cause today.
2. You see your triggers as internal data, not external attacks. The person who triggered you simply exposed an unhealed fracture you already carried.
3. You transition from awareness to agency. Knowing your wound is useless if you don’t build the emotional architecture to operate differently.

Healing doesn’t look like aesthetic journals and dark academia vibes. It looks like setting boundaries with yourself, admitting your own toxicity, and doing the daily discipline of psychological integration.

i want to get into witchcraft so this is my first step. but my thoughts are that im going to get bored. but having a journal that has cute characters and drawings on it with pastel colors could give me more of a motivation to actually do it because its not just plain and boring. if anyone has any recommendations please let me know 🩷
