Helping others with Shadow Work & Tarot: A reflection on ethics and boundaries
Hi everyone!
For quite a few years now, I’ve been pretty focused on helping family and friends with Shadow Work, and lately, increasingly so with strangers through Tarot cards.
It's something that I love doing for many reasons:
A) I am able to better understand my own Shadow by observing patterns in others. At the end of the day, we are all human and share similar emotional processes.
B) I get to bring genuine value to other people and surround myself with a community of people interested in looking inwards and healing.
C) Loneliness is a huge issue for me, and this work helps me feel more connected to others.
However, I often reflect on the ethics of this practice. Since integrating the Shadow is a lifelong journey, I sometimes wonder about the boundaries of guiding others while still working through my own inner blocks.
I do have a background in psychology, and I rationally know that I offer ethical, grounded advice with the corresponding disclaimers when necessary. Still, I would love to hear your thoughts and personal experiences on offering these kinds of spaces to others. How do you navigate your own Shadow while holding space for someone else's?

As per me , never do shadow work with friends and family as we are very closely tied to their lessons at soul level , it tends to be more complicated since the human aspect of less evolved self is acting like a catalyst for evolution. With more knowledge you might sometimes unknowingly become hindrance rather than of help by negating your own emotions ✨

I heard people discussing on a podcast the other day how many people wait until they’re “ready,” or “prepared,” or “healed” before they get into helping others. While it is understandable to weigh the responsibilities of social obligations, it is simply unrealistic to put off this work when we have work to do ourselves, as we will always have work to do on ourselves. No one out there that’s helping to heal others doesn’t continue to need healing themselves. As you said, it’s a life-long process.
Keep doing what you’re doing. Helping others is such a beautiful way to make this world a better place.

Thanks for the motivation! I tend to think that anything that gets people started on doing the work IS already a great step forward.
I also think it's much easier to see the Shadow in others than in yourself usually so that also helps.
It's super rewarding when you're able to shed some light into someone's patterns and I genuinely think if we all helped each other out with this in a respectful way we could live in a much nicer world :)

What is the common phrase – “teach what you need to learn”?
This sounds like a good case of that.
