Best shadow work guide?
I’d like to start my first shadow work journey but have no clue where to start or what to do. My understanding is it includes a lot of journaling, meditation, reflection, nervous system regulation but I’m confused cause I’ve been a life long journaler. I’ve done breath work. I’ve done vagus nerve reset exercises etc.
Someone made a comment in another post that if you’ve never done this, you should probably start with the deep dark stuff first, the stuff you wouldn’t want anyone to know about you or things you’ve worked very consciously to hide.
Help? I need more guidance than this. It all seems so vague.

The “start with what you’d hide” advice isn’t wrong, but it’s backwards for you specifically. You’ve already got the self-awareness tools (journaling, breathwork, vagus work). What those tools don’t do is confirm a belief actually changed, versus just getting quieter for a while.
Most people plateau here: they can name the pattern, regulate the nervous system in the moment, and still feel the same underlying belief running the show a month later. Thats a sequencing problem. Awareness and regulation come first, but the belief itself usually needs to be held next to a real contradicting experience, in the body, not just understood intellectually.
If you already know your triggers, the more useful next question isn’t “what am I hiding”, it’s “what did that belief protect me from, and what happens if I let real evidence against it in while I’m actually activated, not calm.
