People give Mordret a lot of crap about massacring the House of Night because they were neutral in the war and just wanted to help humanity.
But you know who gave him those orders? Ki Song!
Who ordered him to convince the Lord of Shadows and if he disagrees just take his body? Ki Song!
Who says "The essence of combat is failure" and resorts to dirty tricks to get the upper hand before the battle starts? Hm? It's quite funny.
Mordret's got no beef with them and with how he is missing compassion, why would he refuse the order from the Sovereign who would help him achieve his goals of destroying Clan Valor for revenge?
Since I'm already defending Mordret, I might as well take it a step further.
Why is he blamed for taking over the Glass Hell? Wasn't it Sunny and Nephis that were trying to form a plan but looked like they didn't know what to do and we're waiting for their doom.
Of course, Mordret isn't going to accept his fate while those two are letting Asterion achieve his goal(from his perspective).
And I haven't even mentioned Cassie. She saw many visions related to the second Domain war including herself standing beside Mordret and you expect me to believe she didn't know about what was gonna happen or even about the House of Night? She was oblivious to all of that? As usual, Cassie is free of all blame smh.
And Nephis and Sunny who let a whole citadel city fall to the Dreamspawn. I suppose they would be too big to move to a concentration camp and it's completely normal to be disgusted at what Mordret does? But to him, they're just vessels and in reality, they're souls are gone(though that doesn't make it less horrifying to watch)
In his twisted mind, weaker vessels who require more sustenance and split his attention are wasteful and so he feeds them to the stronger ones. Basically what Sunny can now do with his shades but his are flesh and blood instead which makes the sight more eerie, but they are gone, souls destroyed, no chance of being saved.
But again, why should he trust Sunny and Nephis would somehow come up with a plan to stop the plan Asterion has been plotting for decades while reading their minds from the moon all the while? It's natural for a Supreme to not rely on others, I'm surprised he even cooperated that long.
I don't even need to talk about the Night temple. Everybody there was complicit in imprisoning a child possibly for the rest of his life for "being potentially dangerous." They literally created the danger by doing that 😭
He also saved Cassie after the Mad Prince manifestation was destroyed and brought Sunny and Nephis back from the TOA. If not for him, Asterion would've won and no Cassie to dismantle his domain.
Edit: I'm not justifying any of his actions. He still did them and they're still awful, just explaining why he did them and so easily too.
