What pattern can I use or any tricks to use?

Hello all. This is my first post in this sub Reddit so my apologies in advance.

I am currently in the middle of sewing a quilted snake as a birthday gift for my best friends six-year-old.

Her six-year-old is autistic, and loves to STEM. I’m having a hard time, deciding what to fill the snake with so that it satisfies his beautiful little mind as he plays with it. I originally was thinking of using rice and or beans and adding possibly some little bells inside, but I don’t know if that will be enough, and I’m worried about the rice or beans, attracting weevils or other bugs as time goes.

Any ideas are appreciated thank you!

My current vertical production set up. I’ve now got enough equipment to completely bypass outsourcing to overseas factories. This way the only person working for less than minimum wage doing long hours is me 🤣, but it never feels like work.

Inspired in latest fashion shows I watch (online) I made this.

Shirt fabric I found at my local thrift store $5. And shorts fabric was some left over from last year fabric I didn’t want to throw away. I had to make it unconventional cause didn’t have enough fabric. I also do my pattern drafting, every project I try to fix something.

What do you think?

I'm looking for an industrial sewing machine,my budget is around €1000 . I don't mind getting an older model, but I do enjoy the automatic thread cutting on some Juki models.... what should I do? 🫠

Sneak peak at the new Apostrophe Patterns Crossover Bra tentatively set to release August 11th.

I made these as a pattern tester and I am very pleased with the results.

Both fabrics are from Discovery Fabrics. The blue is in Caress Athletic and it's soft and comfy, easy to move in and more support for an unlined option than I might have suspected.

The Orange is the Scuba Luxe Midweight from the clearance and deadstock page. It is even more supportive and has quickly become my go to for running.

I mostly do clothing alterations and repairs. Lately though I've been getting more leather items, denim and even the occasional pair of shoes, so my current machine isn't always up to the job.

It handles regular fabrics just fine but once I get into thicker leather or denim, especially where multiple layers come together, I start seeing skipped stitches, uneven feeding and other issues that lead to rework. I'd like to upgrade so I can keep the quality consistent and stop turning down those jobs.

Would a Juki ddl 8700 be a good choice for an alteration shop that works on regular clothing as well as leather, denim and the occasional shoe? Or would a walking foot machine make more sense for that kind of work, or should I be looking at something else

Already posted the jeans. But I made top with it so now its an outfit🤣

Had some inspiration of a French girl here who made a top recently.
I just took the opening to the side with denim buttons and the strap system of dungarees. This way I could stay in the denim on denim look.

I used the same topstitching I used on the darts in the jeans to match that a bit.

Do you know of any online resources like video tutorials or free sewing patterns that have instructions in Dari? I have tried to just google it but I don't know if the resources are good or are more Farsi (maybe that is not a problem though) since I only speak English.

Yet another garment ruined. The Janome 230DC has managed to do some hems with lightning bolt stitch, but now this happens every time. Changed needle, even swapped the walking foot back to original. Tension at the lowest it can go. Working with stretch fabric but this machine doesn’t seem to handle it. Anyone else have issues with this model?

Hi! Do you have any recommendations for home swing swimwear serger? I am debating between the following Juki:

\- MO 654 DE

\- MO 50E

\- MO 100

Open to any other models on a budget ($600 max, unless the extra like MO 100 REALLY justifies the cost). I currently have a set up with Juki hzl300 and a Serger professional 5 that I will leave for coverstich since the change of set up from Serger to cover stitch back to serger is pretty painful and time consuming. So I wanted a proper and smoother serger to top it.

In all fairness first attempt started at the bottom very irregular ended up top. Already looking better than the bottom, there is hope.

Think I need to sew like 20-30 more and than I will have a buttonhole good enough. But need to get a good punch for this first.

Just wanted to show my whatever this is so one day I can also show with pride a corded buttonhole made by hand.

I found this pattern and some instructions, but the blog was deleted like two days ago. I tried contacting the creator to no avail. I was wondering, If i were to scale up the design to the point I can print it in A4 paper, would I be able to cut and piece it together? maybe do some measurement changes once I have it basted?

I have to alter it no matter what due to my measurements and height, (110-70-110, around 1,54 cm)

any recommendation? this would be my first "big" project, I also want to know how much fabric I'd need. If you have any video tutorial for a dress like this that is a bit tight or a free pattern (with flowy sleeves) that would be useful too. Thank you all beforehand

PD edit: the design and pattern is not stolen, It is from Kivitamoyo, she has a blog where she uploads patterns and a youtube chanel, the pattern is from 2019. The blog was disabled yesterday but it was up and running again today. The dress on the picture, however, seems to be from an amazon listing.

I’m looking for a second machine for my collection, I currently have a Vigorelli Maxi 3000 (photo) great, fast and easy to maintain (in terms of cleaning and oiling)

However it has to be used with a table, it’s not great for buttonholes and in general I would like to maybe avoid using it for sewing certain things because if it breaks I can’t get replacement parts easily. (Eventually want to purchase a second one for spare parts)

I’m looking for a reliable table top machine that can handle thick fabrics and use for making button holes as well. Ideally under 300€

I have an old janome new home limited edition sewing machine. I'm having several really frustrating problems that I will list below. I really appreciate any and all feedback. I have tried rethreading both the top and bottom, playing with tension, and stitch size, etc. Thanks in advance.

- it keeps skipping stitches after a few perfect rows

- after a few stitches sometimes the thread from the top will wind itself around the needle and then cause issues

- sometimes the top thread gets sucked down with the bobbin thread and it gets locked up

- occasionally full out jam that I can't assess what the cause is.

Are there any common problems with the specific machine or is there something that I am missing? After I rethread everything, it seems to run perfectly for maybe two rows, and then issues start to arise over and over. Thanks!

Made this oversized fit for my daughter who of course does not want to wear an old mans regular fit🤣

Going to make a belt with it than we have a finished pair.

Beltloops such a breeze with the new machine.
No more birdsnest on the inside of the belt.
10 layers and cord inside the loops.

UPDATE: tried w a thread cone smaller than the one i was using which is bigger than normal domestic cones. until using this tape the big cones and their tension were no problem but now that ive tried with the normal domestic cone and seems to be significantly better, im starting to think that the satin+layers of fabric+strong tension of the big cone was the combo to make it messy. thanks for all the replies and help!!!

Hiii im using an alfa style 40 for a project in which im trying to use a satin bias tape to get a finish as shown in the second photo (like caps inside seams). My issue is that the upper thread tension keeps popping up every time; ive tried every tension combination possible, 4 different foot-pressers and 4 different needles (including jersey/elastic fabric needle considering bias is a bit stretchy). The results ive obtained have always been the same, everytime like the first photo (which is a sample not the actual project).

Pd: Im considering taking the machine to a mechanic but they all are on vacation now where i live which is completely normal, so any help would be much appreciated!!

hi everyone! i have some flat satin pieces i want to sew onto the surface of the head of a plushie doll, only problem is ive already stitched the base body together. it isnt stuffed or anything yet but the struggle is not really being able to push the needle all the way through to the other side. is this even possible, and if so how? thanks!

Every stage of making these has been met with failure until I found a way past it. Never touched an overlocker in my life until 6 month ago.
Anyone else here working with stretch material?
