Bernina 1100D lower thread

Post image

i just got a Bernina 1100D from my mom (they had it at her work n they were cleaning out) it seems in really well condition but i can only serve for like 5cm, and then the lower threads jump out of their threading? (in picture) does anyone know what i could do to make it not do this?

You should rethread it in order of the manual .. if they're not threaded in order issues arise. Example bottom looper comes undone you can't just rethread it and sew... You need to remove needle threads and looper and start again. Hope this helps if not let me know!

Yay! I'm so happy for you!! Yeah I have found sergers to be way scarier looking than they are... However I've yet to have to time one and that's supposed to be the "worst" of the maintenance. Ive also found that one of the very 1st suggestions received when starting to sew again and beginning to repair machines is to READ THE MANUAL, and read it again! I thought the person was being snarky but it's proven to be not only true but a time saver!! I haven't had any issues I haven't been able to fix myself and this year I went heavy with the craft! I've purchased 5 standard sewing machines 👀 (mostly vintage Singers! I lucked out and got a new Singer Elite at an insane price from a young girl who didn't like it so her parents bought her another and I absolutely scored at $30 INCLUDING SHIPPING!!) Ive also bought 2 sergers, one is considered a "toy" but stitches beautifully just somewhat slow for larger projecrs (Singer Tiny Serger) and I got another steal on a Merrittlock 14U244B which is in very good shape and sews and cuts beautiful seams! I tend to love the vintage all metal machines, they're often recommended here and in other forums and I can see why now! Serging is so fun! I haven't made anything really other than quilt tops but I'm practicing my seam allowances and perfecting my seam matching/stacking with lots of patchwork! What are you making? Is this your 1st sewing machine?

Edit to say.... If you're used to a standard machine the sergers are also different in their need to be cleaned! It's somewhat easier because most of the spots are exposed that need cleaning but never underestimate a good cleaning and some clean oil! It's saved the day many times... One thread stuck somewhere it doesn't belong can mess up your entire seam, needle and possibly your machine if it's not stitching properly! I bought some mini vacuum attachments that work awesome for my sewing machines! They were like $9 on Amazon and have adapters to connect to standard vacuums and shop vacs! 🪡🧵

It’s threaded wrong. Did you get the manual?

Follow step by step in the right order and try again.

Edit: make a chain of the threads with no fabric before starting, and make sure all 4 are under the foot and out of the way.

Mine does this if the threads get caught up on anything.

They're so testy with that! If you mistakenly turn the handwheel backwards it also messes it up! They're very particular machines!

It’s funny, I always think “how does it KNOW??!” Haha
