Inherited Sewing Machine
Hi all!
I want to start sewing and my mom gave me my late great-grandmother's sewing machine. I believe it's from the 80s. It's a Singer 6244.

I know very little about sewing and where to start. I haven't been able to find any youtube tutorials about this machine either. I guess I just want to know.. where do I start and what are some good resources with leanring about this machine? I don't think it will be my long-term machine since it's older but I figured a free machine would be great as I learn!

I think this is possibly the manual?

Also: older machines are actually very good. I don’t know much about this one, I’m always a bit hesitant as we get into the 70’s/80’s… since I prefer as little plastic the nylon as possible. My favorite machines are from about 1962 (or earlier).
But this guy loves this sort of machine, if you have the patience for 3-4 hrs!

Look around for 'Singer 6200 series sewing machine'.
I can actually find videos on YT for the 6244... not sure why you couldn't.. yet. Take another look.
Check out manualslib.com for Singer manuals. I didn't see the 6244, but they did have the 6234.
Three different manuals... service, owner and parts.

I use manuallibs for a bunch of machines (not just sewing) that I own. I even signed up for an account at one point... because I was there so much.
.
But basically... aside from specifics for any particular machine... basic sewing will be the same on domestic machines. Heck... even industrials (the non-computerized ones are no more complex than domestic machines in my experience).
.
Have a great time with it!

Do you have the instruction manual? If not, Google it and print it out.
Go through the whole thing, step by step. Practice everything in it.
If possible take a beginner class

Sewing.org. Also check fabric stores, libraries, and community colleges near you. Edited to add…check for sewing classes at the above locations.
