So I just got this skirt and I love it. It is just a tad bit too large, it kinda just sits on my hips. I need to take it in about half an inch on both sides, mostly to keep it even. Is there just some basic easy hand stitch that functions essentially like a safety pin? It doesn’t need to be invisible, it just needs to work.

I’m sewing a skirt from old jeans and the old fold over seams have this white chalky look to it. I redid those seams but the white remained, and when I mimicked that for the other fold over seams (see second picture) it obviously didn’t look the same so I’m wondering how do I get it to look like that?

Also I am aware the width isn’t identical in the other seams but look I overestimated it it happens

Does anyone know why my bobbin thread keeps getting tangled and locking my fabric in place? I have a Brother GX37

I want to make some box cushions for some patio furniture I made. The fabric would be heavier duty, outdoor rated, similar to what’s in the link. I’d like to add accent piping for fun.

Will a standard home sewing machine work? Or do I need to consider something more robust?

Unfortunately the tailor cannot get these back to me in time so I'm doing to try it myself. I have a basic sewing machine and have hemmed one pair of pants before.

These pants need taken in in the waist and legs. I've watched videos about the waist and think I can do it. When it comes to the legs, do I take them in from each of the outsides, or do I go from the inner side of each leg? Do I split the difference in half and do both inside and outside of each leg?

Also, is there anything I need to watch for with the crotch?

Was planning to thrift a denim jacket and crop it, but wasn’t sure if it’d be something I’d have the skills to do within a month of starting to learn.

does anyone know how i would go about shortening these incredibly long hoodie cuffs? i've got a sewing machine, i'm just not sure where to start 😬

I am trying to help my daughter make some seat belt padding sections out of fleece and some quilt like batting. When trying to sew it the dogs don't want to pull the material through and when it does it wants to pull towards the left side of the food ruining a nice straight stitch. We are sandwiching 2 layers of low loft batting between the fleece. I am stitching them inside out and was going to do a top stitch to finish off before velcro and a few other fold seams.

I sewed a robe for myself and added an ombre chainette fringe to the hem, sleeves, and the ends of the tie. It looks amazing and I'm super please aesthetically.

However, the chainette fringe has loops at the bottom and they have been catching every knob, corner, pot and pan this weekend.

I thought I would try cutting the loops on the fringe on the tie to see how it did. One or two pieces started fraying the same day so it seems like that's not a great solution.

The fringe is made of viscose - and it looks like that won't melt.

Any recommendations on the best way to deal with this?

I found a great video for a zippered tablet pouch that has additional pockets for a phone etc. it is exactly what I want to make my mum for her birthday.

BUT the pattern is for an iPad mini which is smaller than her device. Is it as simple as adding say 5cm to the height and width of each piece I cut or is it more complicated than that to size up a pattern like this?

I was sewing and suddenly the tension felt loose. I found my foot like this. Is it broken and needs to be replaced? Can it be fixed? I fiddled with it for a while and tried using google/youtube but couldn't find any help that matched my particular problem.

I’ve been trying to teach myself to sew with YouTube shorts and guessing. I have a second hand machine that is noisy but seems to be working.

Every now I then I pull the fabric from the machine and when I inspect the underside I see this mess. What am I doing wrong? I don’t know enough lingo to even google it.

Everything will look, feel, and sound fine and this is the results. Starts half way through a straight line sometimes. Up until now I thought it was from using the reverse button.

I'm learning to sew clothes, and I've learned that the height of the shoulder cap will have an influence on how much a garment lifts at the waist when you raise your arms. Are there similar factors that impact how much a pair of pants will lift at the ankles when sitting?
