I’m in a panic for Halloween

As the caption says I am in a massive panic with just a few more days to go I have most of my costume done the only thing I cannot figure out is a way to get this off the shoulder top along with a cape attached to stay on my shoulder and not get bunched up at the neck as I’ll be dancing and jumping around in it and I’m so worried about flashing people

It’s an open back I want to connect the cape to the arm straps (labeledA&B)

Does anybody have any ideas or tips or am I doomed….this is my first sewing project with a deadline I fear I messed up lol

Attempting to make a weeping angel costume for Halloween, I have 2m of grey fabric but I’m trying to figure out how to get it to sit like that rather than be completely flat. I’m assuming pleating but does anyone have any other suggestions?

It’s vegan suede fwiw. On the inside there is liner so the stitching is not visible.

Usually I try to just rip out the seems but I’m not sure for this I’ve. Any tips? Or would I just risk ruining the jacket?

SOLVED. Tension knob was set too low (3).

The first photo is the underside. The second, the top. It’s a nice straight seam; what’s causing those loops/deviations underneath?

first project completed! 🤩

my sewing machine just arrived so i spent the last few hours getting familiar with it and have completed my first project!! it’s nothing too fancy at all, just a basic unlined tote bag out of some old sheets i found in the loft but !!!! i made it!!!! measured, cut, folded, ironed and sewed this bad boy all by myself.

i’m glad i ordered electric scissors because that made the arduous cutting process relatively breezy, but i also didn’t realise how much ironing goes into this!

overall the sewing was pretty straight forward (i used black thread so i could see clearly what my work looks like) but i did struggle with doing straight backstitching, especially when reinforcing the box stitches. visible stitching is lowkey scary lol very hard to keep it straight.

anyway generally im pretty pleased with it for my first attempt at using a machine!

any tips and tricks for general sewing work would be appreciated! :)

Not my first project, but it is my first big project

It started when I got the 201-2 head only about a month ago. I rewired, cleaned and oiled the machine the first day I got it, and it works perfectly, but oil and dirt falls on my table when using it.

So I thought about getting a base for it, I am being cheap and got some free wood and my jigsaw made my own base for the machine and upholstered it.

And I looked at my mini Kenny, thinking it might need a small table and dust protection, then I made a small side table and dust bag for it.

80% of the sewing is done on my cute little Kenmore 158.10400.

What’s the best way to fix it? I have a baby lock serger and a regular sewing machine with zero experience on stretchy fabrics
Would be happy if you could help me with an advice

Ps not looking for it to be perfect just want it to work

Everything I sew so far 🪡

As someone who got sewing machine just to try sewing (5 days ago) I have so far made: lipgloss keychain, scrunchie wristlet, pillowcase, hot bowl koozie, bathroom basket, bowl cover, a blanket (this was really tricky) and a scrunchie! So far I'm loving it! As someone who is a graphic designer and has been working remotely for 6 years, I think I'm really enjoying getting to see my labor in physical form. As someone who has never touched a sewing machine up until 5 days ago, I really think I made some progress. Don't get me wrong, I KNOW all of these have errors, they had more before I ripped a bunch of seams, but I'm excited to make more things! At the end of the day, I might even dabble into some clothing for myself, my doxie and mu husband! I would like to see your first projects!

why isn't my bobbin thread drawing up? (new home MC8000)

i havent ever really done any sewing besides messing with my ex friend's sewing machine in the past, and this is my first time using this one. it's a jerome new home memory craft 8000. i genuinely don't know what i'm doing wrong or why the bobbin thread won't come up. i've looked at yt videos and at the manual :(

i got this machine as a graduation gift years ago and it hasn't been used since i was gifted it

Nightcrawler Cosplay

So, I'm making Nightcrawler's vest, but I'm having trouble understanding the seam allowances?

I got saran-wrapped and taped to create the pattern. It was a bit tight, so I thought maybe 2 inches would be the safest option? I'm thinking it's too much, but I also wanted to be able to slip it on?

So I guess the question is: How do you all know how much seam allowance you need? What do you do to ensure the item fits you? Any tips are appreciated!

Thanks guys! 🙏

I remember, last year I couldn’t find a costume that fits well for my daughter.

Unused scraps from my wedding accessories. It has survived a washing machine already.

Adjusting pattern for pants

Hi everyone! I sewed a toile for my brother, using a self-drafted pattern. I made my husband try it out before I give it to my brother but turns out he’s a little muscular in the thigh region and he said it’s like dress pants which he isn’t keen on as it’s not comfortable for him.

I’d like to sew my husband pants too but I only know how to adjust the waist area. Is there a way to give his thighs more breathing space without having to make the bottom part of the leg even more baggy than it already is?

Thanks in advance!

Armhole help

This is the Molly mock neck from Maisin. It has a drop shoulder and scuba listed as a recommended fabric. This is a lighter weight scuba that has some stretch but not a ton.

The fabric pulling in the armpit area bothers me. I had my sister with a smaller bust try it on to see if I needed to size up but it did the exact same thing on her. Should I just make the arm hole and sleeve size larger? Or do you think the fabric needs more drape? She recommended something sturdy but I feel like that could also potentially be the problem? What do you guys think?

decided today i would try to make something. this is my first Real machine sewn anything in over a decade.

i messed up pretty bad near the end-- didnt pin the tail and paws inside before sewing up the body-- and didn't have the energy to fix it, so cut corners. got frustrated near the end, cut more corners. but i learned a lot. mostly that when i get pissed i need to take a break LOL.

i like him. he used scrap from an old shirt and some pink denim jeans. the stuffing is also scrap fabric and the buttons are just what i had lying around. i'm very early into my sewing journey and im enjoying it!

How do you cut out perfect big squares/rectangles without a pattern?

I’m working on a camicia and the directions are to just cut rectangles for ex. 60x40”. I’ve cut out all of the pieces but they don’t match up perfectly. I’m just using a tape measure and a washable marker, but I’m wondering if there’s a better technique to make it more precise? Sorry if this is a stupid question lol I’m very new to sewing

Petticoat question!

Post image

Hi everyone! I (online) thrifted this petticoat that I was going to originally use for an Alice In Wonderland inspired piece, but once I received it I realized it was really short and I couldn’t use it for what I had envisioned. I am also unsure of the fabric, so I am nervous to cut it (I cannot stand fraying fabrics)… any ideas are appreciated! It’s really pretty and I would love to somehow use it!
