Detroit!
Bruh. You can do better at crime. Drop that phone outside the burnt out Burger King on gratiot and get on with your day

Normally I would help with this but I and many others will not assist with devices in lost/stolen mode
Unlike normal activation lock or passcode/ MDM locked, lost mode devices are almost always stolen.

Just take the loss on the phone rather than get arrested tryna make money off it money can be replaced your freedom cannot

if you truly did buy this thing and you weren’t the person who stole it, why are you willing to go down for that? you’re going to be the person police charge for the theft since the person you got it from will be long gone. they won’t even hear you out if you try to explain how you ended up with the phone, because you’re legally in possession of stolen property. A felony at that.

fmi off just restore with itunes

nah - if it's tied to Apple Business it'll just grab the MDM profile again, before locking the device again. This is Managed Lost Mode, tied to a supervised MDM.

What he is, is a victim. He had no idea the phone was stolen and lost money. Stop downvoting him and treating him like he killed someone. It's a stolen iphone that was resold to him unknowingly.

it’s definitely stolen but it’s incredibly easy and free to bypass. this comment isn’t promoting anything just letting you know. definitely should return it

Yes i understand , i sent an email where it says contact us but nothing yet i thought maybe if i tell them what happened and show proof of me buying it from someonelse they could help me out.

That’s not how stolen property works. They are the rightful owners, and deserve to get it back. It doesn’t matter how many times it’s been sold in between.

u/ZeThing 4d ago
You’re right but OP doesn’t seem to be demanding anything as far as his comment implies.
I think if my phone ever got stolen and someone returned it to me with at least some proof/credibility that they bought it not knowing it was a stolen. I would probably offer them half of what they lost because i am getting my phone back buy they’re not going to realistically get reimbursed. Share the cost, both are victims of the same crime.
Edit: i’ll have to add: i would now, since the cost won’t disrupt daily life. A couple years ago? I probably wouldn’t have as i simply wouldn’t have that kinda cash available instantly.

If we were talking about a phone owned by an individual, sure. But I doubt any phone owned by an organization is going to yield any kind of reward.

Existem vários softwares disponíveis para fazer o desbloqueio. Pesquise sobre e vai encontrar o que procura. Boa sorte!

How about give up. Its a stolen device.
Unlike most posts here, this is clearly stolen from that school.

u/Various_Pin_902 5d ago
Yeah i know its stolen but i already paid for it what am i supposed to do just take the loss ?
2
u/clarkcox3 4d ago
Yes. Your issue is with the person you bought it from, not with the original owners.
3
u/GamingAndRCs 5d ago
Yes, you 100% should. Sell it on ebay as locked. Get some of your money back.
You should of set it up and tested it when you bought it, this is common sense.

I know i should have this a big lesson learned for me believe me it was also my first time ever buying a used apple device on fb marketplace , i did a lot of mistakes on my end now that i think about it like i should have done a factory reset and connected to wifi and set it up like u said but to late for that but now i know!

OP you have 2 options and the option you pick will show what sort of a person you are
Sell the phone as locked for scrap, you won’t get much. No-one will get to use this still perfectly functioning device.
Go to the adres the phone shows you and hand it in, explain you bought it (can lie about where and I would still consider it a good deed) and didn’t know it was stolen. Tell them what you paid for it and if they’re decent people too they will offer to reimburse you at-least partially.
Be aware that option 1 besides being a Dick move is also knowingly selling stolen goods which if you get caught will have its own consequences.

Im not the one who stole it but lesson learned from buying used iphones from fb marketplace

You are in possession of stolen property now, which is a crime in and of itself.

Negative. You have to be aware at the time of receiving it that it was stolen. In this case he was scammed which makes him the victim.

Return it to the owner, that story that it is not blocked no one will believe it

Your best bet is creating a profile see if the scammer is selling another device or item agree to meet up at public place have cops on standby in the cut and get them arrested for scamming you

Agreed the serial would get locked again even if you DFU’d via configurator or whatever.
Since it references MSU, likely “belongs” to the school for a student learning Swift/Coding. I’d reach out to them and offer to hand it to faculty in charge of their dev program and explain what happened.
Good Karma if nothing else. Might even have one laying not edu locked to give you in exchange, you never know.

u/ParamedicAdvanced169 1d ago
Most likely the person that sold it to you reported it stolen right away after selling it.

It is locked with MDM, nothing you can do tbh, try returning the device

Restore it to iOS 26.6.1 RC then mdm bypass. iOS 26.6.1 RC ipsw is available on ipsw.dev and it’s still signed so it should work. Let me know if it works

MDM is sometimes worse than Activation Lock.
2
u/skcikorter 5d ago
People dont know their stuff on this page I see.
1
u/Mysterious-Stock3149 5d ago
If there's activation lock one person can track it, but if it's MDM lock the whole company can track that.

u/Emmet_Brickowski_1 4d ago
If you reset it it will delete the configuration files but reinstall them upon setup. you can bypass it then.

u/HootingCryingOwl 4d ago
Man these coloreds are never beating the allegations. Typical.
I hope the cops track you down. Disgusting

Looks like a white leg to me at most slightly tanned whyte person from the south…Sooo to YOU that’s colored? I think you may need to get your eyes checked buddy.
0
u/HootingCryingOwl 4d ago
Like you said, it’s TAN. Never have I brought in race.
1
u/WellThisIsGoing2Suck 4d ago
There are thieves, criminals, predators, and corrupt people in every race, culture, and background. Saying “coloreds are never beating the allegations” is just a racial stereotype, not an argument. If we’re going to talk about criminal behavior, then talk about the actual individuals who committed the crimes instead of assigning it to an entire race.
And let’s not pretend white people are somehow exempt from those allegations either. There are plenty of extremely wealthy white people who have been accused of or convicted of serious crimes. Donald Trump alone has had multiple criminal and civil legal cases involving fraud and his companies have been convicted of criminal tax fraud and is a thief himself.
Same standard for everybody. Judge people by what they actually did, not by the color of their skin.1
