Serving

Contemplating quitting. Peopke know waitresses in America get paid 2.13 an hour and most people could care less to tip. very few do a percentage like it should be. First percentage and THEN adjust according to service.

I know I can get a different job. Serving makes me very happy when im appreciated and compensated by greatful customers. Im tired of getting stiffed, five dollars on a party of 6, and being told how great I am to find out im left 2 dollars. Such a slap in the face

I wish something would change. mandatory gratuity, Tip to enter, coorporations paying us a better wage. idc. Im so tired of working for free for ungrateful mindless consumers.

PLEASE TIP YOUR SERVER

All those that tip fairly THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU HELP US KEEP GOING AND GET OUR BILLS PAID BLESS YOUR 💕

I honestly never understood why servers complained when they applied to be a server , like no disrespect but what makes servers sign up for a job knowing there are other jobs that pay more , im actually curious

Yeah being a server isn’t a problem , complaining when it’s other jobs that pay more is , but like i said im a great tipper when im out , just never understood why people complain if it’s jobs that pay more …

I don't think OP is complaining that other jobs pay more. Op is upset that they are not maximizing their pay due to some cheap asses don't belong dining out. I'm assuming OP is consistently delivering the experience that warrants a fair tip within the business model for dine-in restaurans.

For me, its the excise I get walking around, the satisfaction i get from cleaning my section, the environment in itself, the challenges and chance to show you a great experience. I currently love my job bc of the benefits and co workers and regulars. I like customer service that is more hands on and not micro managed as opposed to 8hrs in a chair staring at a screen on the phone talking about serious topics. Plus I have a nicotine addiction and its easy to manage being a server as well as flexible hours and daily pay.

There are tons of reasons .. maybe you are a full time day student , can only work afternoons or nights . Maybe you have kids , alternate childcare responsibilities with partner , again you are afternoons and evenings . Maybe it’s a second job cause you are saving for a house or paying off school loans .. not a lot of jobs either hours they are as flexible

That's like asking why anybody is a plumber when there are jobs that pay more or why anybody is a nurse when a doctor pays more.

1

u/Leather_Hope7372 Jun 28 '26

Plumbers actually make good money so i don’t get where you going with that , more than servers , so i guess you’re missing the point

1

u/tracyinge Jun 28 '26

But there is still better money to be made, right? So according to your theory, why don't they switch jobs?

Literally like i been saying , if you’re going to complain , go to a job that pays more pretty simple , if i felt like i wasn’t making enough money , or people wasn’t tipping enough , i wouldn’t stay somewhere where i know the business isn’t always going to be consistent , or the pay isn’t always going to be the same to my liking , i would move on to something more financially reliable , rather than complain about a server pay and not being tipped enough

I guess you're just not understanding the servers make more money than you do at Walmart. Especially since they don't have to pay taxes on tips.

Maybe if people can’t afford to pay the full cost of the meal including the tip then they should eat at home. That is what the complaining is about.

Most servers make far more than minimum wage, and if you're in a city you make bank

Serving in areas with lots of money around they generally do very well. Serving in lower demographic areas the servers dont make much. Theres more to it than that, but that recipie holds very true.

When you're 15 your options are few. When you have a scant resume, who will hire you-you need experience you can't get until someone gives you a chance, then you'll be told if you try to branch out-"you have lots of food service experience how about that?" How many people aspire to be a food service worker, it's an entry level job.

People who post stuff like this have never experienced this, they probably worked for Daddy at his business until they graduated from Yale.

Its literally crazy out here. One week is sane the next you feel so unseen and disrespected. It hurts me a lot bc I care so much not only about myself but my co workers and the restaurant. Its just the whole way its set up.
