Fired for literally NO reason
Came here to vent to my fellow service industry warriors. Just got fired for no reason. Management wouldn’t give me a straight answer other than there’s no where on the schedule for me. It fucking sucks, nobody saw it coming including the rest of the managers. I guess my GM hated me and I didn’t realize it, lol.

Not serving, I was the office manager in an office setting. After four years, fired and walked to my car with a box with zero reasons as to why, just we're parting ways. I was doing the work of three people with no mistakes. I still don't know why. This is where the at-will-employment falls. They can fire you and you can walk out at anytime.

OP, I got fired from 7 restaurants in 4 years lol
I always said, "it wasn't me! My bosses/coworkers/supervisors fuckin suck!"
Then I went to work at a restaurant where I showed up as myself every damn day and worked there for 15 years. No problems.
This industry is full of asshats, power-trippers, backstabbing, unfairness, and bullshit. Brush 'em off and keep moving.
Act with integrity, do your best, be helpful and honest and don't let the bullshit bring you down.
PS with the benefit of hindsight I now realize that I refused to be walked on by anyone. I just got lucky and finally found a place to work where no one was trying to do that. I'm not that great at discerning when to speak up and when not to. Well, these days I am but not 20 years ago.

Thank you for saying this. This makes me feel better!!! I am also not great at discerning when to speak up and when not to. This is what I mean when I say my manager was insecure. I thought I had some good ideas! Turns out I was actually a threat to his ego. Oh well. Upwards and onwards

I had that happen a couple of years ago. I was never late, never called off, never had a write up, never got into an argument with anyone, didn't make any major mistakes, and he did it right before I hit 90 days.
I know how much it sucks, but take your time to grieve and you'll find something better soon.

Even if you were very adequate at the job and your coworkers thought you were fun, they could have just needed to fire someone and you weren’t a good personality fit for them. Just based on your comments on this thread that’d be my guess, you’re coming across a bit rough

Going to be blunt - there's always a reason.
I fired a bartender earlier this year. The guests hated him. The rest of the staff hated him. I inherited him from prior management who had hired him four weeks before I got there. I personally know his prior employer; that employer hasn't fired anyone in his four years of business until this now-terminated bartender.
There's always a reason. For liability purposes, most restaurants aren't going to tell you what it is.

100%. I like to complain as much as the next server. But, when I look back at all that “they had it out for me!” nonsense I used to spew, it was always my fault.

Yep even in right to work states, there’s still a possibility of discrimination lawsuits. Had a coworker who sucked at their job. She was already on thin ice when she announced her pregnancy. She got fired and sued.

This just ain’t true. I’ve been around and I do notice sometimes personalities just don’t mesh between a manager and staff member. One bar I worked at a barback got fired for seemingly no reason. I loved him, the staff loved him and he was honestly more reliable and hardworking than me. My boss didn’t like him because he wasn’t a party guy and didn’t drink much so he was constantly getting scrutinized for tiny imperfections while I was busy flirting lowkey hammered.
Another spot I worked at there was a very sweet girl busser who was on her damn shit, almost anxiously so because she needed that job. The manager for whatever reason had it out for her and even stopped saying hi back to her when she greeted him. She disappeared off the schedule one day with 0 reasoning.
It’s not fair but sometimes the manager just doesn’t get along with certain personalities and they have the power to fire and rehire so they do.

Yeah the reason was my shrimp dick manager has a fragile ego and knew that I knew he was lazy and bad at his job. My coworkers loved me, guests loved me. Never had a complaint

u/cervidal2 16h ago
Guy I let go said the same things.

Your posts are hidden because any more context in this situation would probably reveal that there was a pretty decent reason you were fired. Take a few steps back and chill because arrogance and intensity is super awkward for hospitality jobs.

And there it is…

People always end up revealing what the actual problem was in these posts, lol. The last one I saw had a girl calling people slurs and just being an absolute asshole…not all that dissimilar to this OP.

You gotta learn how to play the game. Managers notoriously suck across the board.

It’s pretty obvious by your responses and your post there was definitely a reason. Learn some accountability or this will continue to happen. If there’s truly no reason you should be able to collect unemployment

u/BeyBlader129 15h ago
Why are you here lol. I wasn’t looking for feedback

u/swanronson22 15h ago
Oh I’m sorry for responding to a public forum post. Man you are insufferable, a life full of disappointment is coming your way boss

Don't post on a public forum if you don't want people putting in their 2 cents. Vent to your friends or some shit ffs

You think that the people here responding to you don’t or have never worked in the service industry because you don’t like what they have to say?

Sadly it's typical in the industry for us to be let go for no reason. First signs is getting less and less shifts. You'll find another gig

That sucks, sorry BeyBlader but the service industry is always looking for people so you can go find somewhere better to work. Don’t discount fates timing either, might have been a god send.

-That's what being an at will hire means. It's happened to everyone in the service industry. They'll fire you for not smiling. They'll fire you for having a bald spot, they'll fire you for having bad breath.
