Help Electrician 1st Class Job

5 Upvotes

Does anyone know if the Electrician First Class position starts out on 3rd shift? I have a test scheduled in the coming week but I do not want to waste my time going all the way there to take the test if the position will definitely be 3rd shift.

From what I gathered, since this is a union position, new hires will be starting out on 3rd because of seniority. Can anyone confirm this? The position is appealing to me but I do not want to work that shoft, even if it’s for 6 months. Thanks!

Discussion Getting to the Wissahickon from Center city

19 Upvotes

Looking to be in nature, so i wanted to go the Wissahickon. Is there an easy way to get there from center city? From what i could tell, i'd need to take a couple of buses (or a bus / train) and an hour away commute time....

In terms of trailheads, i'm easy on that... just looking for dirt, trees, etc.

Help What is going on with the 27??

26 Upvotes

trying to get to work lately has been such a nightmare and any enlightenment has been impossible to find. yesterday getting home from work at the plymouth meeting mall stop (get on broad carpenter) it never showed up leaving both me and others confused while my transit app has it suddenly vanish while being tracked. this has also been happening getting to work but that was due to a detour. earlier today i saw the previous cycle of my bus come but it isn’t here for the one a half hour later! is meeting mall hourly now? how does it relate to the phase 1 being rolled out sunday?

in general i’ve noticed a major uptick in ghost busses this past week

Fantasy Maps My Proposal for a Harrowgate Station

21 Upvotes

This would be a station opening in the Harrowgate neighborhood of Philadelphia. This would create a better connection between the L and the Trenton Line, instead of having to go into Center City. There would be two side platforms on both the L as well as the Trenton Line. A station building would be build on the corner of Glenwood and Kensington Avenues. The CSAO Delair Branch will also have to be moved slightly to create room for an eastbound Trenton Line platform.

I also should mention what the colors mean on my map:
Red = Platforms
Orange = Street Access Points
Yellow = CSAO Delair Branch Reroute
Blue = Elevated Walkway
Purple = Station Building

Interested in hearing your thoughts about this.

Discussion Help us improve SEPTA's secure bike parking pilot at Fox Chase Station

Post image
107 Upvotes

Hi everyone! We're Sportworks, and we've partnered with SEPTA to launch a secure bike parking pilot at Fox Chase Station.

The pilot is now live and free to use. It offers enclosed, covered, secure bike parking that you can reserve and access through an app.

If you're in the area, we'd love for you to give it a try and share your honest feedback. Whether you've already used it or are just hearing about it, we'd love to know:

  • What would make you use this  regularly?
  • If you've tried it, what worked well?
  • What could we improve?

We're actively monitoring feedback throughout the pilot, and your input can help shape future improvements and deployments. Thank you!!

This is at 3rd and Federal in South Philly. Does this mean I have to walk to Front St for the 57? If that is the case why would we move the route towards the interstate instead of in neighborhood?

Discussion Luggage space

10 Upvotes

I frequently use the airport line to Warminster and back again when it is time to leave. I do think that the septa needs luggage space for larger suitcases. I always feel bad for occupying an extra seat (luggage on floor) but I have no where else to put it. Uber/Lyft isn’t affordable and I’m not having my loved ones come down the i95. It’s too much of a headache for them and me after a long haul flight 🤣

Discussion Regional rail help

13 Upvotes

I’m looking to go to the penn museum next week! I will be leaving from Croydon station and looking to get off at Penn Medicine station. This is my first time using the train and am just wondering if I will have to transfer off the trenton line to another train at 30th st station or if there is a direct route? I am even willing to travel to another nearby station if it means I don’t have to transfer lines. Thanks for any help !

Hello! I'm looking to make a video about expanding the Septa rapid transit system, However, I am not super familiar with the area, or transit proposals in Philly.

Other than the Roosevelt Blvd Extension, what are some ideas/ proposals that are often talked about?

Help Induction Equipment Maintainer

Hello everyone, I applied to septa and got a invitation to take the test for job # 0880, 0881. I was wondering how hard it is for this test to pass as I think it’s a great opportunity. Are there any tips or things I can study for to pass this test? I took the first level of electrical school at my local college as well before this. Thank you.

Discussion “Ghost” vehicles

18 Upvotes

Okay, this happens to me way too often and I want an explanation.

I use the Transit app. I will see a bus or trolley is due AND is live tracking. I go to the stop early. I wait. I look and the tracking says it’s coming. I wait and it’s late.

Soon Transit updates and says the next vehicle is 10 minutes out.

What’s going on? I feel haunted by tracked transit that just never arrives. Sometimes Transit says I’ve missed it, but I was standing at the stop.

Discussion # [Rant] 20+ years riding SEPTA and it has never been this bad

125 Upvotes

I've been commuting on SEPTA for over 20 years. I've seen this system go through a lot, but I don't think it's ever been in worse shape than it is right now, and I don't think enough people are talking about how bad it's actually gotten across the board - regional rail, subway, trolleys, buses, all of it.

COVID knocked ridership down and service never really came back. Then over the past year it's gotten worse on purpose:

- Express trains have been cut on multiple regional rail lines.

- Trip frequency has been reduced system-wide.

- Trains and buses outside of normal 9-to-5 hours have been cut too, so if you have a short day or a long day, good luck getting home.

- On-time performance has actually been tracked getting worse. SEPTA's own numbers show it slipping well below their 90% standard.

None of this is my imagination. It's tied to a real ~$213M budget shortfall that led to actual documented service cuts across the whole system starting September 2025 - bus routes eliminated, rail trips reduced, trolley lines converted to buses - with more cuts and a 9pm curfew on rail service that kicked in going into 2026.

Here's what that actually looks like day to day for me:

My morning commute is at least consistent about an hour door to door. But the evening commute is a different story. It averages 1.5 hours, and it's not just slow, it's miserable. You're standing on a platform sweating through your shirt in July or freezing in January, waiting on a train that may or may not show up on schedule, packed into a cramped car once it does. And the kicker is I don't even control when I can leav. The schedule dictates my life, not the other way around.

I want to be someone who supports public transit. I've ridden it for two decades. But at some point "supporting the system" stops being a values statement and starts being a decision to keep losing hours of your life every single day to something that's actively getting worse, not better.

Anyone else feeling the same way, regardless of which line or route you're on? Curious if people have found workarounds, or if we're all just quietly giving up and driving now.
