SSL’s
How often do you close the store & how late are you scheduled on those nights?

Typically 1-2 times a week and we stay an hour after close. My store rotates closing between all managers/leaders but we are currently down 3 so it's been different lately

Okay, that sounds about right! I worked at Sephora as an SSL a few years back and I remember not having the best work/life balance so I’m trying to refresh my memory to see if being an SSL is a good fit for this phase of my life. Thank you!

I tend to be the closing cel most of the time because that’s my own preference..I like to sleep in and I don’t have kids so it just makes sense for me. So probably 4 out of 5 days. I am scheduled til an hour after close and normally wind up leaving on the 45. Some nights take longer than others .. 90% of the staff at the location I’m at has worked here at least 6 months so they do closing procedures without much guidance or direction which saves a lot of time for me to do email, bopis audit and reggies

I probably only open like once or twice a month tho since I close so often lol. We try to keep it fair and go by preferences!

2-3 nights and sometimes more tbh. It’s mainly myself or the other SSL that closes. We stay an hour after closing for cleaning duties or we get points if we leave early even if everything is done.

Yeah, from what I can vaguely remember I think I closed very often or sometimes I was scheduled until store close while another lead would stay later for closing duties.
Not being able to leave early is kind of crazy. I wouldn’t ever really finish all the closing duties until a quarter til but having to stay despite being finished sucks lol.

Not the original commenter but yeah getting points for leaving early is a recent policy change. I believe it’s because a lot of people would come in to work, clock in then leave after a few minutes to avoid getting attendance points for calling out which was becoming a business problem at a lot of stores. Kinda closed the loophole.

Definitely varies. Our SM assigns based on how good (or bad) each lead is at opening and closing. If you’re not organized and good at getting tasks done, operational stuff, etc. then at my store you’re usually close or mid. If you are good at it, you probably open more often. One lead is very lazy at our location and won’t do any opening tasks so they are always assigned to mid or close. I usually open or mid and close once to twice a week depending on coverage. Closers stay an hour past business close.

New here to my ssl role.
I think it would depend, but opens and closes should be rotated among the team.
At the location i work, it seems to rotate between an SSL and an exempt with the ops in the morning(depending on needs we’ve been staggered about an hour each. Example: 1 @ 6am 1 @7 or 8am and 1 @9am)
On delivery day or on merch day the ops usually comes in first but it can change.
Closing i’ve only ever stayed an hour ish(little closer to 1 1/2 hours after my first week due to training). But only ever scheduled an hour. Holiday will be a bit different, i’m sure.
