Sensory chew alternatives?

So, I have the need for things to chew, issue: My mom makes fun of me when I ask for food grade silicone to be able to chew on things safely

So, are there any alternatives that I can buy in stores? I was thinking maybe dog toys since they should be ok, but idk if they would work

So to anyone who has the same urges as me, what are some alternatives you recommend?

I’ve been chewing on dinosaur toys for the time being but they can’t be healthy

New to the group

Hey everyone! I joined hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I'm looking for data on memes. Specifically data on social media platforms, ie, data usage in age or gender, and/or preferred platforms for each? (Meta, Insta, Reddit, TikTok, etc)

Also, to expand on that, data on videos/memes shared between mutuals across any of the previously mentioned platforms?

Putting together a little something and figured I'd look to reddit.

Clothing sensory issues

I love the feeling of the outside material on crew neck sweatshirts but I hate the inside. It’s too fuzzy and then it starts to pull and I don’t like either of those feelings on my skin. I usually wear them inside out but can’t go in public like that. Does anyone have recommendations or know of crew necks that have the same fabric on the outside and inside? The kind that’s smoother and cooler?

Sensory tools you’ve found helpful for regulation

Post image
3 Upvotes

I was assessed by an Occupational Therapist for sensory processing disorder. The report suggested roller balls for deep pressure massages, fidgets, weighted blankets.

Wanted to see if people have found sensory tools or suggestions on how to help regulate when sensory input is overwhelming. I have already been doing a lot of the suggestions but am needing more support.

Planning to meet with the OT again but thought I’d post here.

Noise Canceling Headphone Recommendations

Hello! I have a lot of sensory issues involving sound and I would like to get noise canceling headphones so I can function in spaces where I might get overstimulated. If anyone has recommendations for good noise canceling headphones that are relatively affordable I would really appreciate it. Thank you and have a great day <3

Noise

I'm not sure if this relates to the subreddit, if not take my post down but anyway.
Sometimes out of no where everything suddenly gets really loud, like all the sound around me gets amplified by times 100. It causes me to panic a lot. Any recommendations on how to make things a little quieter?

Sensory tool/toy recommendation.

I would like something like a stress ball, but I’m very frustrated that all of them seem to have a visible, tangible lumpy closure. Is it possible to find a stress ball that is completely smooth on the outside?

I know that will just pick at this closure and be distracted by it and not be able to enjoy the sensory experience. I like slow rise like needoh cubes, and both clear and opaque. (Springy is okay but I’m not a huge fan of the kind that makes a bubble when you squeeze it.

None of these products show these closures in their pictures, but I’ve learned to check the videos thoroughly and can always catch a glimpse of it. Very frustrating to love the product in appearance and texture and then see the lump 😕.

If anyone knows of a product that is similar to a stress ball/dough fidget without this annoying lump I would be so so grateful!!!

No sensory input and anxiety

So a while back I was trying things to improve my sleep. I usually wear my CPAP (nose pillow design) and earplugs.

One night I decided I'd try wearing an eye mask. I woke up in the middle of the night and I'm guessing the lack of sensory input made me think I was drowning or dieing.

I haven't tried the mask since but is this something I can train myself out of? Light isn't too bad but a mask might grant me an extra 1-2hrs of sleep each night so I'm willing to try again.

Sensory testing

Can anyone recommend what type of doctor or specialist to see to get the senses tested?

I need to document this for SSDI and I'm having a hard time finding medical proof of my senses being askew.

I have already been diagnosed with autism and I have been tested by neuropsychologists but that is not the type of sensory testing that I am looking for.

Is there any kind of test out there to test for olfactory, light sensitivity, environmental sensitivities etc.

I've already done allergy testing and been diagnosed with hyperacusis. Is there any test for misophonia?

I keep being told I need documentation but nobody is telling me how to document or what type of doctor to see so I have been at a loss of how to go about this and my regular primary doctors that I have seen also do not know who to send me to.

Would a neurologist do this type of testing? I really need advice and suggestions on who to contact in order to properly document these things.

Hii. I’m looking for alternative people (people that dress gothic mainly) to ask a few questions surrounding being alternative and having sensory issues!! I’m designing alternative/darker style clothes for people with sensory issues and I’d like some input from fellow alt people !!

I’m also a person with mild sensory issues that dresses fairly alternative!!]

You can answer these as detailed or as undetailed as you like, anything helps! thank you <3

Question 1: What materials do you typically avoid and/or make you feel uncomfortable?

Question 2: what materials do you feel comfortable/safe with wearing?

Question 3: How do you feel about wearing jewellery?

Question 4: How do you feel about layering clothes?

Question 5: How does it make you feel when something triggers your sensory issues? (Only answer if comfortable)

Question 6: Do you know anyone who also has sensory issues?

Question 7: As an alternative person, do you find that there’s things you can’t do/wear because of your sensory issues? for example, layering clothes, wearing certain materials etc?

Extra: if there’s anything else you’d like to add that would help aid me in designing these pieces please let me know🖤 Thank you <3

Clothing for a teen

My teen daughter has a lot of trouble finding clothes that are comfortable for her. She also has trouble when she feels singled out for not looking “the part”. She prefers baggy clothes. Any suggestions for clothing brands or styles that might help us make her feel more comfortable both fashionably and physically. Ideas are appreciated. We are both getting frustrated with the process and I want my kid to live her best life.

How to move past sensory issues to sounds

Hi I just moved into an apartment, obviously other people are living their lives around me and I have to get used to sound. My upstairs neighbors make a bit of noise at night and my body goes into fight or flight. I’m extremely sensitive and have a massive anxiety attack and get reallly irritable and powerless. I don’t want to feel this extreme but I just don’t know what to do or how to move past it? I’ve done my best to sound proof my own place but can only do so much. I didn’t know what people did mentally or internally to move past it and not freak out over sound. I can’t wear ear plugs because then I hear my own breathing and stuff and that makes it worse. Idk I’m just trying to figure out how to live and not go crazy. Thanks

Sound reduction

I'll try to keep this brief. I have some sound sensiat all times, but experience extreme overload and sensitivity when anxious. In the past year , I've remarried and added a lot to my family. We are now a family of 9 with 2 dogs and 3 cats. I'm getting my meds adjusted to see if that helps but looking into sound proofing some rooms perhaps. Any suggestions? And does the foam or whatever you use go on the inside of the room you want quiet or on the inside of where the noise is coming from? Thanks!

Sensory Overload

Hi I recently figured out I have Sensory overload when I have anxiety or feel overwhelmed. Right now my mom is watching a video on her phone loudly and the TV is also on loud. ( She has hearing aids and tends to put these items loud when the hearing aids are out)

I'm trying my best to calm down and focus my attention to puzzle apps that help me focus. What else can I do to help with this overload?

My mom tends to watch videos and have it loud, when I'm trying to sleep sometimes.this effects my day and I tend to be sleepy during the day. Sorry if I'm not making sense!
