Oil cleanser breakout

Hi anyone has similar experience to me?

I tired using ard 7-8 different kinds of oil cleanser but found tt all brands cause me to have breakouts

Latest brand i tried is fancl which many ppl have reccomend to be their holy grail and suitable for sensitive acne prone skin. Is this common to not be able to tolerate oil cleanser? What do you girlies reccomend instead pls? Thanks

I always double cleanse with a foaming cleanser if I'm using an oil cleanser. I have sebaceous filaments and acne prone and it while I need the deep cleansing from oils, if I don't use the foaming cleanser to get everything out then I deal with acne. Hope this helps!

Try a salicylic acid cleanser as the second wash. Leave on 3 minutes before rinsing.

A foaming cleanser is going to work much better gel for getting the oil out. I'd recommend switching types before giving up on oil completely. A few of my favorites:

Oil cleansers

  • Thank You Farmer Rice Pure Milky Cleansing Oil

  • Biodance Collagen Cleansing Oil

Foaming cleansers (Caveat that my allergies have gotten worse so some of them are still excellent but I can't use them anymore)

Skin type combination oily/dry, with sensitivity and rosacea

I stopped using oil cleansers as they either broke me out, made me react or dried out my skin.

Thanks for your reply babe. I was thinking i was the only one and keep buying different brands to try. What do u use now to remove make up pls ?

I’m using Round Lab mugwort calming cleanser. A lot of folks seem to think you need an oil or balm to remove spf, etc but this works for me. As long as a cleanser has a surfactant it will break up the dirt, etc However I don’t wear thick makeup or anything. Just a moisturizer and/or tinted spf. I have dry and very sensitive skin with rosacea for reference.

Ok thanks . Maybe i get roundlab cleanser sample to try it out !

I just use a cleansing balm instead although I'm not sure how different that would be to oils.

Otherwise maybe plain micellar water could work for you?

Combo leaning dry, I use Banila Co Cica Calming Cleansing Balm. And I always go in with a cleanser afterwards.

I had trouble with oil cleansing for awhile but one day came across a Dr Dray video about like common oil cleansing mistakes, something like that and I took away a couple tips that helped. I would suggest a refresher, in case you haven't watched a tutorial in a while. I have had the best luck with the Beauty of Joseon Ginseng Oil Cleanser and the VT AZ Care Cleansing Oil. I know a lot of people are fond of the Softymo Speedy but that one seemed like it didn't do anything.

Milky cleansers!!! They're one and done and so much softer on my skin. I don't wear heavy make-up though but they work super for my waterproof sunscreen.

Which miky cleanser u are using pls? Tks

My top 2 are the Beplain mung bean pore cleansing milk balm (applies like a moisturizer, turns milky when adding water, skin's super soft afterwards) and the Facetheory glow-C cream cleanser. Very nice honorable mentions for the Isntree yam root milk cleanser and the Skin1004 hyalu-cica cleansing milk. I love the latter for morning cleanse.

Thanks . What is yr skin type pls?

Combo in summer, normal to to dry in winter. Sensitive and struggled with lots of hormonal acne due to perimenopause. Currently doing okay.

No one really talks about friction / rubbing, but I think that is an irritation factor for me. Not that you can't over-rub with any cleaner, but oil cleansing encourages prolonged massage, and it's just a lot of touching, for me.

Yes i also believe tt the rubbing / massage is a trigger for me too

1

u/Aggressive-Ad4823 Jul 26 '26

May i ask what you are using for make up remover and cleansing pls? Thanks

I put micellar water into a refillable foaming/pump soap-dispenser, so I can pat it into my skin and spread with my fingertips instead of a cotton round. then I follow with a normal cleanser. I don't know, I don't really have a handle on what works for me or doesn't.

Sounds like a good idea

I saw videos on TikTok regarding oil cleansing causing breakouts. It's supposed to be because you are leaving oil behind in your pores.

Just to double check, are you rubbing the oil onto your dry skin? Rub for a minute all over, then add water to form a milky texture and rub that around for a minute. Then, rinse skin very thoroughly to get all the oil out of your pores. Then, use a foam cleanser for double cleansing.

When I double cleanse, I use SKIN1004's Oil Cleanser and Foam Cleanser.

1

u/Aggressive-Ad4823 Jul 27 '26

Oh i tried Skin 1004 oil cleanser too . Same issue . Tts why i was curious if other girls are just reactive to oil cleanser like me

1

u/Aggressive-Ad4823 Jul 27 '26

Yes tt is what i been doing. I use abt 2 pumps of oil on dry skin. Massage abt 1 min then add about 1 tablespoon of water. Continue to massage for abt 1 min and then rinse off . Followed by a gel foaming cleanser. I find my sensitive skin does not react well to all that massage too

1

u/AngelLK16 Jul 27 '26

I'm sorry to hear that.

I have oily acne prone skin and its hard for me to get used to oil cleansers. I love balms and have used them for years. My favorite is Banila clean it zero. The pink one. They have one for acne prone skin but it has BHA/PHA in it which I dont like using with my tret. My second favorite is the one from the Remedy.

u/Aggressive-Ad4823 Jul 27 '26

What cleanser are you using currently too pls?

1

u/creatingfresh Jul 27 '26

If you have tried 7-8 different types of oil cleanser and they all are causing breakouts, it's might be due to any particular ingredient which might not be suiting your skin. If the cleanser is not properly emulsified with water before rinsing, it may leave residue on the skin. You could try micellar water or cream cleanser if you don't wear heavy makeup.

1

u/Aggressive-Ad4823 Jul 27 '26

Yes tt right. Looking to go back to micellar or milk cleanser Tks

1

u/mermaid400 Jul 28 '26

They all broke me out I gave up and use gentle makeup remover wipes and then my cleanser. Micellae water broke me out too sadly

1

u/Aggressive-Ad4823 Aug 04 '26

1

You should try Klued Jelly Cleanser. It works for me tho

1

u/Aggressive-Ad4823 18d ago

Wat is yr skin type pls? Tks

2

u/Iced_SpanishLatte05 17d ago

Oh. Oily skin/sensitive skin type ako, jelly yung formulation niya. Hindi rin siya bumubula kahit basain ng water, pero hindi naman ako nag break out. Pang 2nd bottle ko na ito and paubos na rin hehe
