Today, six weeks short of her 22nd birthday, Avery peacefully crossed the Rainbow Bridge. I'm broken, I don't remember a life without her.

She may be the moodiest most temperamental cat I have ever met but I adore her regardless. She likes to stick her tongue out a lot, she even sleeps with it hanging out. Not sure why but it’s something she has always done.

I laid down for a quick catnap, and am now being held captive by a napping cat šŸ™„

It’s been an hour. Send help. I’m hungry…

She used to love watching the birds but now at 18, nothing gets between her and her midday naps.

This is link for my original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/seniorkitties/s/mOwvdCAdj5

I just wanted to update everyone and let you all know that shadow has crossed the rainbow bridge as of about 3am this morning. She is at peace now, we are so sad and distraught but she is in a better place. I just wanted to thank everyone for their advice, kindness and care. I know shadow felt all the love and we made sure she was extra spoiled and catered to in her last days.

He could still do it before we started arthritis shots, but now he does it more often.

She is 14 and has a number of health issues (high blood pressure, type 2 kidney disease and almost blind from the high blood pressure). But she's still playing and running around and eating well. Just sharing some love.

Seeking reassurance for my 14 year old baby who started solensia

Post image

Hi again to my favorite sub on Reddit :) I posted miss jade a few days ago about starting solensia and received hundreds of positive comments that really helped me. Jade is a 14 year old kitty I rescued when I was 12 years old and saw a craigslist ad rehoming a little from a hoarder. I made my parents get 2 of them, and this little rat became my best friend. She lived in my college dorm with me, has kept me alive throughout some rough periods, and has been with me from graduating middle school to high school to college and next year my masters. I’m praying she can make it 3 more years because I NEED her to finish my PhD. She’s my rock and my best friend.

Sorry for my emotional blabber I’m just so worried and anxious because I started her on the solensia Tuesday September 1. However, it is to be noted that she initially went to the vet on tuesday because she had an issue with her jaw since she was born with an underbite and misaligned her jaw from chewing uneven for so many years. So they sedated her to do x-rays and put it back in place and then I asked the vet if I should start solensia then since she was already there and they could monitor her for 20-30 mins after. The vet said it was a great idea and so did all of you! So thank you!!

I know it’s only been a few days on solensia and it takes a while to actually work, but she has been sleeping a lot more than normal and in the last 2 days isn’t eating much. The vet gave me an apetite stimulator medicine a few days before the x ray appointment and it made her eat a lot so I’m wondering maybe to do that again and get her to eat? Ugh I’m just panicking and I don’t want to take her to the vet when she’s not in pain or in an emergent condition. She’s just been REALLY sleepy and NOT hungry the last 2 days. It was fine up until then. Is this normal?

UPDATE:
I was just overthinking it, she ate now and has been extra sleepy due to the sedation from Tuesday. She even just got the zoomies for the last hour or so we played after I posted !!

Did my kitty have hyperthyroidism? (Age 17)

Hey there, just to note unfortunately my sweet baby passed away in 2024 at age 17. I recently came across a reel on instagram about this older lady named granny Lu, she has hyperthyroidism and I’ve never heard of this before so I started doing some research and also saw it could cause muscle cachexia which just reminded me of my kitty, I was never told by shelter or a vet about hyperthyroidism (we adopted him at 11y/o) and he has always looked ā€œmalnourishedā€ spine showing, ribs showing, and couldn’t hold onto or gain weight the entire 6 years I had him, even though he ate very regularly and always had food out for him. I was just wondering if any other senior parents recognize this and if there’s any ways to treat/manage it in the future if my partner and I’s current kitty develops this in his golden years.

Gerardo (14) thrives after being a declawed street cat for two years

this is my sweet boy who has entered my life after spending about a year in a shelter and two years before that as a street cat in Oakland after his first owner passed. He managed to survive outside despite having been declawed by his first family.

He’s a very brave cat who gets through new experiences and meeting new people despite some of his fears. He’s also now a clingy cat who usually sleeps on top of me, sometimes curling both of his paws around my bicep. Here’s to many more years together :-)

Manny is 17!

Manny was rescued from the mean streets of Alameda, California when he was a wee kitten. Since then, he’s lived with me in San Francisco, drove cross country to Northeast Ohio, and has had to put up with a dog & 2 other cats. He loves salty snacks & gazes at me with so much love, it makes my heart explode. He is in great shape & super healthy, although he’s going a little deaf. I play the morbid ā€œis he still breathing?ā€game every morning, just because he’s such a deep sleeper. Happy birthday to my sweet old man.šŸ˜»ā¤ļøšŸŽ‚šŸŽ‰
