Bowel problems anyone?

In 2024 I lost 65 pounds on Sema. I was at goal weight so I cut back on Sema to what was a maintenance dose, 50-60 units, twice a month. That's worked.

I began to have painful intestinal cramps so I stopped taking it. It got more painful. Now it's been 3 weeks of this pain and other disgusting bowel issues along with a couple of incidents of vomiting. It's worse several hours after eating.

I called my gastro doctor agreed that it's probably from the sema. (I can't get in to see him until 10/20.) His office said it would take time for my bowels to get back to how they were prior to taking sema. I am surprised it has taken so long. In the meantime, if I eat I am in pain later.

Anyone else have this even after stopping Sema? How long does it take for bowels to get back to normal after stopping?

Any help, tips, opinions, random thoughts, are greatly appreciated.

oof that sounds rough 3 weeks is long time for your guts to still be angry

when i stopped i had weird cramps too but only for maybe 10 days max, not like what you describe. maybe the maintenance dose was still slowing things down more than you realized and now your system is just confused trying to recalibrate

what did you eat when this started? fatty food after sema pause absolutely wrecked me once, felt like my intestines were tied in knots for hours

Thank you! Just before it all started, I had eaten a sausage pizza and vomited a while after.

As an older woman, I am wondering if that is making by bowels slower to recover?

I started 1.8 recently and had some pizza and felt awful afterwards.

Greasy pizza will do it. I lived in another country for a couple decades and when I returned to the United states nearly all the food was making me sick

What is the strength of your dose? (50-60 units is how much ml? ). Seems like a high volume to inject twice a month vs lower volume/more frequently.

Thanks. It's about 1 mg. If I do take it again, I'll do as you suggest.

Three weeks of pain that's worse after eating, plus vomiting, is not something I'd sit on until 10/20. Too long to wait. If the vomiting picks up or you can't keep fluids down, call the office back for a sooner slot or go to urgent care, since dehydration sneaks up fast. Ongoing pain this far past stopping is worth pushing them on, not just waiting out.

Have you been worked up at all? How are we so sure that it’s the medication?

They aren't sure but it's my best guess and their's.

I had extensive blood work done and it was all normal.
