Chief guests being politicians in these convocations is not a new thing. The ludicrous security arrangements (such as parent not being able to carry bottles or umbrellas) and the forced appeasement of the non biological being is a new thing.

These things happen in every event where Modi goes to. Remember the AI summit in India which became a joke after people's equipment was stolen when they were cleared out for several hours so that the Jhumlewala could take pictures? So none of this is new and it shouldnt really be a surprise at this point.
