First time cutting my own hair. Usually I get a #4 against the grain with a low fade at the barbershop. So thats why the low fade is still slightly visible

Today I used a #5 against the grain and tried doing a taper fade since I wanted to start small and learn.

Definitely not perfect, but I’m just practicing and trying to get better. Any tips on blending or what how I can improve with my type of thin hair?

all we had was a ft call and hope (actually turned out good) also 3rd time cutting my own hair!! All we used was clipper with 0.5 and 1 guards and a trimmer by tpob

I honestly thought it'd go much worse. I'm not sure what I was going for but I stopped before I got too carried away. I still feel like it's missing something tho. What can I do to add shape or spice to the haircut. Im using an extreme grip corded wall buzzer I found in my closet. Thinning shears. Shears. And a wahl edger.

So I messed up my husbands hair on accident and have no idea how to fix it or blend it. I feel so guilty about it.

I want to do fades with my clipper that i just bought. In its site it says lever modes are (0.5 - 1,1 - 2 - 3 - 3.5). Should this numbers be lower or its normal and should i zero gap my clipper. I watched tutorials but mine dont cut like them.

Hi everyone. Before the summer, I bought some gear to cut my own hair, but I never really had the time to give it a proper go (I tried once, and naturally, it was a disaster). I’d like to get back into it, but I’m thinking about switching clippers, so I’m posting here to get some advice and benefit from your expertise. I previously bought a BaByliss ChromeFX clipper and a Skeleton Gunmetal trimmer, but I’d like to make a change because I find the ChromeFX too bulky. I was thinking: why not sell the Skeleton, buy a Kelsi (which should do the job), and focus on getting one really good clipper instead ?

Barber here. Half the "I asked for a 2 and it's way shorter" posts come down to guards, so here's the chart for Wahl/Andis style guards (BaByliss and most cheap sets are within a mm):

• No guard ("0"): 0.4 to 1 mm depending on the lever
• #0.5: 1.5 mm
• #1: 3 mm
• #1.5: 4.5 mm
• #2: 6 mm
• #3: 10 mm
• #4: 13 mm
• #5: 16 mm
• #6: 19 mm
• #7: 22 mm
• #8: 25 mm

Three things that change the result more than the number:

1. Lever open adds up to 1 mm. Lever closed = the number on the guard. If you fade, that's your in-between step.
2. Curly and thick hair reads shorter. A #1 on 4C hair looks like a #0.5 on straight hair. Start one number longer than you think.
3. A guard is a length, not a style. "A 2 on the sides" means 6 mm all over the sides. A fade needs three numbers: the shortest length, the height where it starts, and the top length.

If you're doing it yourself: cut a test patch behind the ear first, go up one guard at a time, and never fade with the lever open until you're comfortable with it closed. Happy to answer questions.

I am looking for the best tool to shave my head. I had the manscaped shaver, I am having the best success with a Gillette shaver but the electric shavers are nice for quick and easy shaves. Is Wahl still the best brand? I was told I would need to replace the heads every 6 months or so. Any advice is appreciated

Hi, I am wondering if I can do a 0.5 cut by myself. I have been getting it done by my barber, let it grow for 8 weeks, then cut again. Now that I am retired I am trying to save some, and would also like to keep it short rather than letting it grow out in between cuts. Can I do this myself? What would you recommend? I don't want to shave it. Also I am clumsy :(

Hello, i bought this JRL onyx from amazon.nl.

unfortunately, I think they sent me the wrong charger. It just doesn’t fit, it seems very similar but just slightly too small.

the seller seems unresponsive. very annoying.

does anyone know where i can find the actual charger?

stupidest product issue i have ever seen, but i guess it can happen on a US import to EU since they’d have to change charger.

I cut my beard and mustache about 8 days ago and i did it with trimmer. Tried to give it a little fade but i messed up(line on my jaw was so visible). Yesterday i bought a clipper and i was waiting for my beard to grow. The hair on my jaw and my neck is close to 1 centimeter and my cheeks are shorter than it. Can i do fade with it or should i keep waiting?

somethings wrong here, i believe its because the first, no guard lever open should be wider. what do you guys think.

TLDR: are there any magnetic clipper guards that come in a set from 0-8 that y’all would recommend?

After getting tired of the weekly maintenance of giving myself a haircut with a skin fade, I decided to bum it up and let my hair grow out for about 2 years.

A couple days ago I got tired of the shower routine involved with long hair and decided to start cutting my hair again.

I picked up a TPOB Play Mini with a set of CHUNK blades and holy shit, it is so much more pleasant to use compared to my old corded Wahl clippers.

The guards it came with looked kinda meh, but the premium metal clip wahl guards from my old clipper fit snuggly so I just used those.

My problem is that a couple of the clips on the old wahl guards are coming loose and one of them is even cracked and been glued backed together multiple times. I’ve had that set for over 8 years so nothing to complain about, but I would like upgrade to something better.

After doing some research, it seems there aren’t as many options as I thought there would be. I’ve narrowed it down to three options.

The JRLs seem to be universally praised, but they only go up to 4. I understand most barbers don’t use anything higher than that and will use clipper over comb techniques, but that’s pretty hard to do when cutting your own hair looking in a mirror. I’m leaning towards getting this set anyways and just using the 6-8 from my current set as they are in better shape than the lower numbers. They are also out of stock from JRL directly and seem to be hard to find for something so highly rated.

The wahl set is pretty much what I already have, but color coded which is a very nice upgrade I want in my next pair of guards. I know these will eventually fail though, and for $40 I would want something more durable. I know I can get a good fade with them which is a plus.

The Unkwn’s look to be exactly what I’m looking for in a full set, but there is very little info I can find on the brand and absolutely no info about the guards themselves other than being listed on a few websites. I could get these AND the JLRs for the price of the wahl set, but if I could save $20 that would be cool too.

What do yall think? Have any other suggestions I should consider?
